In my view the best even though slightly old but still looks real nice is the Honda CBR 400 or the VFR 400 both great looking bikes.

Anyone else want too give a mention to their fav 400cc bike?

A good looking CBR400 can make me grab my crotch in a brookside brother-sister way...

Although the Bros400 and CB-1 are very, very pretty

The winner though is a 250, if I could get one: the VTR250, later 90's onwards... its just so pretty.

I do like the vfr and rvf 400, but if i was looking for a smaller bike it would be either an aprilia rs250, or if i could find one, a honda nsr250 Drooling

CBR400...a damn fine looking motorcycle.

Although I'd rather have a CBR250RR if I'm honest.

I own a CBR 400RR as well as an Aprilia RS125 which I can see from your sig as do you. So if you're considering the Babyblade, do it! the power difference from the 125 to the 400 is immense and will make the RS feel slow and boring in comparison. Thumbs Up

As its asking for the best 400, what about an NS400R.

https://www.reach.net/~seven/rc&ns.JPG

Does look a little Sick next to the VFR.

I wouldn't mind a CB1 for some strange reason?

the newer ones will be least likely to be thrashed, but are likely to be more expensive.

RVF's are generally the more expensive and is less likely to be as abused as a cheaper vfr.

most 400's are pretty similar due a gentlemans agreement the manufacturers had at the time.

bassically the best bike is the one in the best condition (likely to be a honda then)

My CBR!!! Wink

Nah, tis a great bike, but my GSXR400RKSP was an ace little thing. Very highly strung!!! Bitch to work on though.

Only met one VFR, tbh I thought it sounded fucking awful.

Agree on the best condition one of any make though.

I reckon you are going to miss that bike if/when you chop it in for a Gixxer Sick Laughing

Sadly I've not won the lottery otherwise I'd snatch your hand off - I need a light but sporty bike to coax my sister back on to bikes.

Besides light bikes have a charm that the big sports bikes will never match. Wink

Buying a new bike at the moment without a lottery win would get my breeding rights revoked in a never again kind of way. Shocked

ZXR400's are shocking. Thumbs Down
So unreliable its unreal!

Ive got 3 mates, all have had ZXR400s and all have had Head Gasket Failure in the time they have owned them.
Looking over them too, everything seemed to be corroded or just broken etc.

I'm just a Kawasaki hater in general though!

Have always fancied a GSXR400. Just when I parked my NC29 up against one a few months ago at ebbsfleet, it was tiiiny, Even at the side of my NC29 it looked petit.

Ive had a couple of NC29s and an NC30. I feel that the NC30s are highly over rated! Really wasn't impressed with mine from the start really. Sounded hideous, even with the Art twin port race can.
I also wasn't overly impressed with the handling.

Call it a biased opinion, but I personally like the NC29 (CBR400RR) the most out of the lot. Although the front end on the stock Honda fairings looks shite!

I had customised fairings on mine. Much broader front end, Extra vent.
Made it look like it was an NC29 on steroids.

Handling was spot on, Although I was running non-standard tyre sizes, CBR6 rear shock and upgraded front fork internals.
Really hung out in the corners! Just felt "right". I dont know, they must be pretty good bikes because Ive had two. I even took the time to BUILD one from scratch! Thumbs Up

Although if im honest, I would get another. This doesn't necessary mean these bikes aren't a good "Stepping stone" for riders coming off a 125 to a big bike.

The stories about 400s being nimble and awesome handling bikes is a load of bollocks, Its a myth!
Owning a sports 400 will make you become a better rider, They are twitchy, heavy, under-powered bikes that need to be worked to give any rewarding out come!

SO when you do jump to a modern 600, you will be tearing it up, so to speak.

All my mates hated my NC29, all told me to "get a real bike" etc. But when we all went to bike meets, My NC29 attracted a damn sight more interest than the Gixxers and ZXR 1000s. The old 400s are Iconic bikes.

Reliability - Honda 400s
"Pretend its a 750" - Kwak ZXR400
Sheer roll on response - Gixxer 400

The only Yammy 400 ive ever seen belonged to some guy who lashed a set of R1 fairings to it and painted it black. Looked shocking so I have no opinion on these bikes.

The FZR400RR is very rare and as a result i want one Razz

VFR/RVF i suppose is the most desired of all the 400's.

I can't say enough nice things about the CB400 as an all rouder.

the last model gsxr400 looked the bollocks back in the day, brilliant bike as well. Gsxr's went to shit after that Wink

Anyway as someone said there is NO comparison to a reasonably modern 600 in the handling department.

On the track my 96 rvf feels like a wallowing piece of shit compared to my 04 zx6, plus its keeps breaking down Thumbs Down
