Bought some switches off ebay and was wondering if anyone could help with the wiring?

Got the switch working fine, just the switch has a LED in the top of it for when it is on, yet its not working atm.

Heres the link for the switches
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300238295472&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=020

Currently using the two contacts underneath the switch, just the one on the side not in use...

Any ideas what I should connect to this?

Cheers,

M

It might need a resistor.

Best way is to try connecting two 1.5 volt batteries to it and see if it lights. If it doesn't, it's probably a 12 volt LED, so go ahead and connect it in to your headlight feed - I'd say that's the best one, because then the lights wouldn't be on during the day.

But its only one connector...

It is a 12volt one I know that but what do I connect to it?

Sorry, my brain isn't working today.

I take it you have 12 volts going in and out of the switch by the connectors on the bottom.

If so, the only thing I can think of is that you're meant to connect a ground to the extra contact.

Unless it grounds via the top of the switch instead.

the positive side of the headlight.

Or if you want, just put it onto the + on the battery meaning the light will come on when you flick the switch no matter if its day or night. You will have to do your own bit of wiring.

I have the exact same switches in red on my boat lol. They look good like off a spitfire or something.

no no bass junky.

he all ready has something wired up to the switch which is working fine meaning he must have ground/- already.

Other thing needs to go to either headlight or + on battery

How?

Think about it. No ground is required for the switch to operate. You just need 12 volts in, and the switched out.

When the switch is turned on, no voltage will exist between the in and out terminals. Therefore, if you connected 12v to that terminal, the light would actually come on when the switch was off.

unless the switch switches the light on and off itself as well as joining the 2 connectors at the base.

Matthie, try both ways, see what works and report back. Attach a piece of wire to the contact on the side of the switch, and touch some exposed metal on the frame or side of plug etc, all grounded. Then if that doesn't work, touch it to the battery +

Lol. I think I will try touch + from my battery on it and see what happens. (After dinner so don't hold your breath Wink )

Doesn't matter about the light being on during the day as my headlights are anyway...

ok fine! I was expecting the other side of the switch to be negative/earth so thought it would be pointless.

Whats the switch doing for you?
