Aren't you about 12? Have to be 18 to get a tattoo.

Also, same old tired advice that you won't listen to because you're a kiddie - how much of a dick will you feel with those tats 6 months afterwards?

Every tattoo shop I've ever been in has been very explicit about not touching anyone under 18, its the law. If a shop would touch under 18s, I wouldn't go there. If a tattooist is needing to tattoo people under 18, you can assume they're not good enough to get enough legal business through the door.

Picking a good tattooist - they should be booked up at least a month in advance, if they can slot you in tomorrow, see above.

doubtless you'll look at some pictures and go for a heavy gothic script, seems to be the norm for general lettering on cheap tats.

Just to reiterate what Robby said contrary to popular belief that you can have a tattoo under 18 with parental consent, this isn't the case because of the tattooing of minors act making it illegal.

You do have to be 18, anything under is classed as assault on a minor or something of the sorts.

Really think about getting a tattoo, once they're done they're with you for life, the novelty will wear off in about 2 minutes, so if you are really 100% sure you want a tattoo, make sure its something that is meaningful to you.

Perhaps getting "MUTHA" and "FATHA" tattooed across your knuckles might be a more attractive option for you......??

Mr. Green

In all seriousness, think carefully before the ink gets laid down, although cover-ups can be done it really is a better choice to get it right first time, and hey, you've got 424 days to think about it so plenty of time for inspiration. Take me for instance, I already have 3, and am already contemplating my next one in 6 months time when I head back to thailand (this one is going to be done bamboo-stylee just for that little something extra) so in that 6 months I'll probably change my mind many times before settling on an idea and sticking to it. All of my previous tattoo's I've contemplated for at least 6 months prior to putting needle to skin.

As Robby said, if they tattoo you under 18, walk away. I knew of a guy that used to do that not too far away from him, and a close source informed me his needle hygiene wasnt up to par.....be very careful.

I wouldn't bother getting Mum and Dad tattoo'd fella.

I don't mean to sound like an old cock but I wanted that done when I was 16, now I am glad I didn't have the money spare at that age.

I have a few now though, and although two are in permanent view I don't regret them. The Mum and Dad thing looks a bit cheesy as you get older I reckon.

Better off scouring through the books or designing one yourself without people's names.

I think family member tattoo's are for RIP stuff really, but of course that is my opinion.

And everyone here bleating on about you have to be 18 etc etc, another case of hypocrisy I think, how many of you advocate letting restrictors "fall out" officer?

All amounts to the same thing except its the lads own skin, rather than on public roads.

Ah but he is only 16 so none of you need to take him seriously eh?

Ever wonder why people go "well fuck the lot of you" and rebel against everything?

I think theres quite a big difference, in that say you can take your bike to a garage, get all restrictors taken out, and ride away to your hearts content. If you get busted then you take the rap solely upon yourself. However, if a tattoo artist is caught inking minors then its his ass (and livelihood) on the line, and he (or she for that matter) faces prosecution, fines and a bad reputation to boot. Therefore, I think if someone is openly willing to tattoo someone underage you have to question their integrity since most professionals wouldnt even chance it. Its the same as selling alcohol and cigarettes to under-age people.

I see what you are saying and I agree with some points, but If the lad has left school and is doing it off his own back then its his choice. It is also the tattooists choice.

Just because the government says it bad does not mean its bad.

Ok fags aint exactly good but you get what I mean.

But he seems to have his head screwed on, I for one cant remember a post from him about being wankered, I don't reckon he smokes either what with his love for boxing.

Oh and just because a tattooist might choose to tattoo an under 18 does not mean he will give you aids.

Agree again, but in my mind their choice to do so working out of a professional studio would say to me that if they are so slack on those fundamentals, then what else are they getting sloppy on? The point im trying to leave is that one should be careful in their selection of who they allow to stick needles into oneself as there are piss-poor ones out there who really couldnt give two-shites about the quality of their work, sure they are probably in the minority since I wouldnt imagine such people to remain in business too long, but indeed they exist.

These people do stay in business though for long amounts of time and make stupid amounts of cash.

The worst tattoo's I have had done have been in a "professional" studio in stockport.

One of the best tattooists I have met does it from home, he has a steriliser and always uses fresh needles, his prices are rock bottom and are certainly not a reflection of work, he has just covered my friends arms in japanese koi and his leg in a cracking geisha girl.

It looks awesome and everyone is happy, he is under half the price of a studio, its not as black and white as ....someone who will tattoo a young person is going to be bad.

If the tattooist wants to break the rules then that is in no way the "minors" fault as long as the tattooist knows.

True, but of all the tattoos I've personally ever seen on people (including bodybuilders with unicorns, optimus prime, captain pugwash and their own name on their neck) the one that instantly made me think 'muppet' was a guy who had 'mum' tattooed on his neck.

Actually no, I tell a lie. There was a shrot fat idiot who had the Mike Tyson face tattoo... but other then that one the stupidest was the mum neck one.

Seriously, why the hell would you want that tattoo?

To be honest everyone has their own likes and dislikes, the above text was my personal thoughts when I saw the pictures of whatever it is you have on your chest.

But I do agree that Mum written on your neck would look rather cheesy.

True, and given that I've seen /very/ few tattoos that I don't instantly think fanboy/muppet/ooooooooh aren't we original I tend to avoid talking about them.

But there are some tattoos that bypass subjective taste, and are just quite objectively reserved for muppets;

Girlfriends/Boyfriends names
Mum/Dad
Love + Hate
Your nationalities flags, especially St Georges or the Welsh one.
Face tattoos

That is obviously only if they are visible constantly, if not then meh.

At the end of the day, my Dianese one is only showed to bikers voluntarily and if I ever get too upset about it then its not hard to hide is it. Christ, you cant usually see it in a white vest top even.

Besides, if you have a tattoo that looks good but people don't /get/, it reinforces the individuality of it. Having a tattoo that everyone else had would just depress the crap out of me.

The only text based tattoo's i'd ever want, would either be my kids names or like the guv said, a RIP or something.

Whilst in English it can be pretty embarrassing if you split up, fiancée and I have contemplated having it written in Japanese or Chinese lettering as then if something happens then you can just shrug it off to a new partner claiming you don't know what it means, but it looks good.

Obviously if you have the whole dictionary down your arm, no new partner would be impressed but hey.

The thing with girlfriends names puzzles me sometimes.

Why should it be a problem if you split up? Are new girlfriends going to have their heads explode if they see an old birds name?

Laughing

I really dont get what all the fuss and stigma behind it is all about though.
