Hi all I am new here and I feel a bit nervous actually posting my progress on here after seen some of the mint jobs you guys have don to your RS125`s.

This is not my bike by the way its a friends I will be hoping to get myself a RS125 project in the next six months or so.

I must worn you before hand I have never done anything like this before so I will be hoping you guys can share your experience and techniques with me, the bike is in a pretty poor state.

At the start

Whilst trying to peel some stickers off

We have been to Halfords and brought a few tins of Halfords plastic grey & white primer, sanding pads, filler & white spirits, I have already sanded down and primered one of the panels which I am not too happy with after the first coat, pics will follow shortly.

    Strip it down
    Spray plastics black
    polish frame
    clean engine

And anything else that may need doing.

what exactly is wrong with it?

im not going to say you shouldnt be doing it as i destroyed a half decent set of NSR panels by trying this same thing, luckily a bike painter wanted my nsr125 so i got an ok price for what id done!

If youve got your heart set on painting it make sure you dont use rough sand paper... fair enough it gets the paint off easily but what a mess it makes of the pannels!

Now youve started id say you should go all the way but i warn you, it might come out a bit poor.

Depending on how much the bikes worth why not get a single colour paint job done, it could easily return the rs to its former glory and with a matching stickerkit (Chesterfield?) it could fetch an ok price at sale.

Its just taty, the panels are all scratched and look a bit worse for ware, the engine is filthy, the main frame is dull and as scratches, the frame that the seat fits to as started going rusty.

We just want to tidy it up and get it looking nice again.

you need to take off all the stickers, and sand it down so there arent any scratches.

spray primer would be the best, rather than brush-on stuff like it looks like you have.

about 3 or 4 coats of paint at least

then a fair few coats of clear laquer on top.

I have removed all of the stickers, I have also preped and primed one small panel, what is the best sand paper to use between coats of primer.

I am a bit scared to take all the bits of the frame incase I cant put it all back together right.

fairing is a peice of piss to get on and off. just hold up the panel to the side of the bike and you will see how it fits back on.

All the fairings are off, I am talking about all the wires and stuff that is connected to the frame under the seat.

The only real problem I think we are going to have with the fairings are that the holes where you screw the fairings onto the frame are damaged, we also have quite a few screws and bits missing is there anywhere where you can buy a set of stainless screws/bolts to replace all the rusty old ones ?

ebay... RS125 fairing bolt kit?

get a set of taps off ebay too to fix the ruined holes.

the wiring issue is simple... just get some coloured stickers and stick one either side of the connector so you know how it goes back on.
