Great little bike.

Took a 2 day course and stalled turning right out of a junction, examiner said I was in the wrong gear, thank god for that, I thought it was my fault!! Very Happy

Have a retest in Sept. but I've bought a '54 cg125 to get some road time in before the test, love the thing. Ok it's slow, and flat out it repays with 65mph, but it'll go forever, and 0 - 40 is quick enough for me, for now.

Stumbled on forum while looking for some servicing advice, will spend a little time here I think, hi all.

Hi ajacko, good idea to get a 125 if you havent much experience, I did the same before I did my DAS. Without riding the 125 about for a few months I think I'd have needed more than 2 and half days DAS.

Pics!

Tough luck on the gearing, as you ride a little more, you'll be able to feel and subconsciously know what gear you're in.

I did the same thing doing my DAS, but the bike (er-5) pulled away in second ok. Just had to be on the clutch a little more than normal. Although the instructor mentioned it on the radio.

Hey welcome to BCF

I did a CBT in October, been riding on a CBR125 every day for the past 6 months and currently in the process of my DAS. I couldn't imagine going into my DAS so quickly without any road experience (mainly because I'm really small so can't touch the ground with two toes) and would definitely not be confident for the test if I didn't have my 125 experience under my belt.

the CG is a great learner bike , shouldn't give you too many problems and will give you a grat start to your biking life Thumbs Up

Good luck, and let us know how it goes Very Happy

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I used to ride a Honda CB250RS, (the single pot one) years ago with a sidewinder (remember them?) on L plates. Never bothered with test then as you could ride for as long as you liked on Ls with a full car license, then they changed all that and introduced the CBT, I had a young family then so the bike test wasn't high on the list of priorities so it got shelved.

So, although i've some riding experience it was many years ago and it was as if I was starting from scratch. And I thought, as some of you have said, more road time was needed, so I bought the little cg, hopefully it will give me some much needed experience.

I've not taken any pics of it yet, will get camera out tomorrow if it's a bright day.

Here are some pics of it though, on ebay where it was advertised twice and didn't meet the reserve. I didn't need the CBT so offered the guy £1000, fetched it on a trailer last Friday. If I look after it it will near enough fetch me the same money back next spring.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2004-HONDA-CG-125-4-SILVER_W0QQitemZ110272317123QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110272317123&_trkparms=39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14.l1318

Once the test has been passed i'm after a Hornet, will have to wait until next year now though, that was one of the conditions of buying the cg, promised the wife I wouldn't upgrade until next spring, women eh?

I'm riding about on a CB250N superdream at the mo, did me nice through the winter. I'm also currently saving up for a hornet, hopefully a new shape one, they are the sex. Gonna wait for winter and get a few test rides on that and similar bikes.

Been looking at the ER6, GSR, FZ6 S2, and the old Bandit 1200. Also can't stop looking at the old YZF thundercats and CBR600s, got a soft spot for them. Worried they may make me a little too fast though.

Yes, but I can't hit 60 in under 4 seconds or top 80mph on my Superdream.

I've looked at others too, namely the 600 Bandit and a couple of twins, the ER5 and the CB500, like the 600 Fazer too. The Hornet is the right make though and my brother's had one so I can pick his brains if needs be.

Good choice on bike Thumbs Up

I took my CBT in July last year and hopped onto a CG125, did my DAS test in october
It definately helps to have that bit of recent experience under your belt Smile

if that dint on the tank annoys you you should be able to get it pulled out at a body shop.
if u are in the blackpool area i can recommend one, really cheap, and good work Thumbs Up Wont do bike mechanics, but will do the body work on them

Welcome to the forums Thumbs Up Did you find your servicing advice?? Smile

Hi, the dent in the tank doesn't look anywhere near as bad as it does in the pic, hardly noticeable really, it's not from a drop either as i'm sure you can see from the position on the tank. The guy seems to think it may have been the ball end from another bikes lever contacting the tank with a little force and the shape and mark within the dent bare his theory out, it did happen while he owned it but he can't pinpoint the cause.

Thanks for the offer though, I'm in Notts so it'd be a trek anyway.

I asked if it was a school bike as he offered a free CBT and he was straight up and said it was, but he said it had regular servicing money no object etc. etc. It put me off a little at first but after thinking about it it'd never been thrashed, never carried pillions, never done 5 minute runs always good runs to rack up the 7.5K on the clock, so all in all i decided the disadvantages of it being an ex-school bike were outweighed by the advantages of it being an ex-school bike, so to speak Very Happy .

And yes, I found the servicing advice, in fact a whole site dedicated to looking after the cg125 was in one of the members sigs, result!! Thumbs Up

CGs are indestructable, ex school bike wont be a problem for one of them

Have they left the engine bars and stuff on for you?
handy to have. Smile

I thought the same, solid bikes.

There was no evidence of bars ever being in place. He did say he has a stock of end caps, levers, mirrors, indicators etc. ready to replace anything that snaps, but luckily they very rarely get dropped, more sort of 'placed' on the floor by conciousness pupils mindful of not damaging the machines.

As your sig reflects exactly my first and hopefully second bike (Deanoet) i've made you a 'friend' in the profiles section as i've never come across this feature on other forums and i'm curious as to it's purpose. Thumbs Up

In your profile you can add personal info, which is only visible to your friends.

Most people use it for addresses and phone numbers for arranging meets and the like.
Or most people i know do. Smile

The power jump from a CG to the Hornet is massive, but oh so much fun, just gotta keep a reign on the throttle hand. Smile

I've committed to a lengthy wait to find that out i'm afraid, it was either that or risk another fail through lack of experience.

To be honest they are beasts the 600 Hornets, it'll probably serve me better to out grow the cg naturally than jump straight on a Hornet from a DAS pass with no smaller bike of my own to ride daily.

Who knows, that DAS fail was what made me go for the CG first, it may have saved my life.
