Hi

My bike came today so i have been busy sticking the radio on it, but we have come to a problem.

The old system:
Push to talk button and battery connectos run to a red 5 pin female plug. Head sets perminatly in the helmet with a yellow 5 pin male plug. Radios are in clip on belt with 5 pin female yellow plug for the lid and red 5 pin male for the push to talk and power for the radios.

What would be the new system:
The bag has been ditched an the radios have been stuck under the seat. The radios arnt powered directly from the battery (they would be on 24-7). I found a wire that is only live once the bike is started (rear light).

So the only connector leaving the bike is for the helmet. This was too short so i bought an extender from autocom.

The guy i spoke to said this lead would do fine. 5-pin yellow headset socket to black 5 pin plug @ 900mm long (Simon Long).Dosnt work. Works without this lead in so this has to be the problem.

Before i ring up autocom complaining. Can anyone think why this lead wouldnt work? I bought two also so its doubtful that both leads would be fecked.

Wether this will help is doubtful, but, get an inline fuse! i'm guessing the radio equipment was not cheep! depending on the ampage they use (i have no idea really) it could save you frying your bike or your radio!

Again i'm not sure but the only reason I could possibly imagine is there isn't enough current draw (you do have it wired to the tail light not the brake light right? i wired my gps into the indicator by accident with amusing results Embarassed )
I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue, but if it is try wiring into your battery (with an appropriate fuse as close the the battery terminal as possible) and you can fit a relay to the tail light and then run the power off the battery, that way you get the full current available and it will only come on when your ignition is on.

It might well be the connection its pluging into?

Anyways, make sure to let us know what the problem was!

The reason you have a yellow connector is because it is wired differently to a black connector. The connector with a black connector to a yellow connector is a CONVERTER lead, not a straight through such as you need. Request a straight through lead, which most likely will have black to black connectors

Hope this helps, but if not email Sam Wray enquiries@autocom.co.uk he can advice you further.
