My Dad picked up a 1976 (I believe) Harley Davidson 2 stroke Trail bike.
It has done 10k miles and has sat in an old boys garage for the past 20 years.
Today I was bored, My Dad said as im bikeless, If I can get this thing running, I can use it until I get myself another 2 wheeler.
So, Pulled plugs out, (its a single cylinder, but has 2 plugs, one HT lead, When it cokes up, you swap the HT to the other plug)
They were both cleaned, Cut the end of the HT lead off and re-wired the HT Cap onto the lead.
Drained the bit of gummy petrol out of the tank and put some fresh in there.
Removed Air box a bit and poked the straw from an can of carb cleaner in there.
My Dad started kicking it over and I gave it a few squirts. Id say after about 10 kicks It started.
Quite smokey mind you.
Took it for a blast up the street. Dont half go alright for a 30odd year old 250.
Quick video of it shooting up the road.

Gave 600£ for it I think.
Have seen the 125 version going on ebay for over a grand. So the 250 must be worth more than that now its running.
Its actually in mint condition. Just everything is pitted and seized a bit like the brakes and bearings.
It didn't have a drop of gear box oil in it when we got it either.
Needs pulling apart really, everything needs a good clean and grease, I cant see anything being overly worn as its done 10k miles.
The wheels need a good going over with autosol. No pics unfortunately, I will get some soon though. |

Fuck me that things in good condition, i know it's been stored for a while but even then, it must have been restored since it's original purchase in the 70's, yeah?

Nah, its not my type of bike.
Drum brakes front and rear, not overly stable as a road going bike.
Just didnt like it in general.
Every penny I get now is going into a saving, Getting together a house deposit.
Once im in my own place with a garage, Another bike, and possibly classic Mini, Project will begin. |
