Two men pushed a woman onto railway tracks after she told them to stop smoking, police have said.

The woman, 58, suffered a broken wrist and bruises to her legs at Farningham Road station in Kent but officers said she was lucky to be alive.

Now I find this story interesting.

It goes without saying, their thuggish reaction was wayyy over the top and they are lucky they aren't being hunted for murder.

The way the story reads though, and the pic of the platform at the station involved, sounds to me like the victim was a smoker-persecutor. Either a 'tutter' or someone who will carp right on to strangers about how selfish they are smoking...erm...outside.

Now I know stations, even open ones, are non-smoking now (twats).

But I can picture this woman sniding and chuntering at the men, even though it was hardly gonna kill her through passive smoking to walk/stand near them.

My point to all this (and question) is, will we see a rise in 'smoke-rage'?

Since the smoking ban I've found more people tutting if my smoke happens to waft near them outside.

This winds me up because the smoking ban was (supposedly) to protect workers from smoky atmospheres, not encourage professional whingers to have a go at someone enjoying a fag in a beer garden/on a park bench.

It's not about the smell, otherwise we'd have banned soap dodgers/the flatulent ffs.

Possibly. This country is full of snidey, snivelling self righteuous pricks who are just out to give every one else stick. I guess people just love to look down on others who do something illegal or different, then try and put them down in front of many people as possible. Usually deserve everything they get Smile

Those two men are utter onanists though for pushing an old woman onto train tracks Shocked A simple 'mind yer own business you old bat' would have worked fine Wink

Agree with this.

I think as the pace of life quickens and things generally get worse a la credit crunch etc etc etc general-rage will pick up. Won't just be smokers, could be anything. I'm quite prone to pavement rage being as it is festival time in Edinburgh and Spaniards cannot use a pavement to save themselves. (I need to stop because if start a rant it'll be difficult to stop.)

Personally, if I see someone smoking near by, I move closer and take deep breathes. I've not long stopped and I really miss it.

Thumbs Up

Well smoking DID harm her health. If the guys didn't smoke she wouldn't have said anything and they wouldn't have pushed her. So it is a smoke related health problem. Laughing

i smoke. and i go out of my way to not get in the way of anyone even in the open air. if i walk past someone in the street i'll hold the smoke in till i am past them purely out of respect.

but it does piss me off when i get told to not smoke somewhere when i am clearly not doing any harm examples are ;

in york train station. down the end of the station where i was clearly 50 metres away from anyone so cudnt do any harm. someone complained and the train official came all the way down the platform to tell me. i said to him i am not doing anyone harm. we are out in the open it hasnt even got walls there arent any no smoking signs or nothing. to which he agreed and let me carry on

standing in the designated smoking area of a beer garden and i was asked politely to 'please put out my cigarette' she has a bad chest apparntly. to which i was like ermm excuse me love but if you have a bad chest then why the hell are sitting in the smoking area. to which she replied. "the weathers nice and the seats are better in this end" i was like what the fuck

people piss me off sometimes when they think they can just get something there own way.

but i do not agree with throwin the wifey on the tracks. thats just diabolical. putting your tab out on her hand wud have been more appropriate

Remember people, Gordon tells us that crime is at a 10 year low. Smile

Regardless of if she was an anti smoking nazi bitch, those who pushed onto the tracks are a waste of oxygen.

How long til we have the army patrolling the streets to deal with people like that? Every day there's so many stories about serious assaults, shootings, stabbing, and generally people having no respect at all for others. Few years and we'll have armed death squads policing the streets shooting 'undesirables' as that would be much quicker than trying to prosecute them.

Plus it'd mean the police can continue chasing their profitable convictions. There's no money in putting little Chavvy McChav in a young offenders institute, there's so much more to be made from going after decent people who have money to their name.

Civil liberties? Don't be daft, continue talking like that and you might get shot for inciting public disorder! Tut Tut

The smoking ban was engineered by, and entirely for the benefit of, professional whingers. Empty-eyed, mealy-mouthed, vituperative, sour-faced, small-minded, piss-ant professional whingers.

Who fully deserve to end up on railway tracks for not knowing when to keep their miserable fucking mouths shut.

Class Karma

I read somewhere that they're going to use spy planes catch people who smoke in non-designated areas. Wink

Like anything else, its a balance. When I smoked I resented being asked to stop if I wasn't inconveniencing anyone. Some people just don't understand the concept of compromise and it doesn't help when popular conception fueled by media/government hysteria makes them feel as if they have a right to get in your face about it.

I curt 'fuck off' would have sufficed in this case, I wouldn't have thrown her off the platform.

Thumbs Up

Thats weird, my friend used to swear blind that all smokers were repressed homosexuals because they liked to suck on something.

I was never convinced.

The story I read said that the woman had spoken to them earlier in the week, and that they just pushed her on the tracks as she walked past them on a separate occasion. Not even disbelieving outrage at the world's worst interfering biddy can excuse that.

As - from the their actions - the two men are obviously scum, it's highly likely that they were smoking in an antisocial fashion - making it perfectly reasonable for the poor old bird to tell them to Foxtrot Oscar.
If people are smoking in a non-smoking outside area well away from where I am standing, I couldn't give a monkey's. If some twat lights up right next to me like an inconsiderate oaf I'll be sure to debrief him on the matter.

Yeah, I reckon the old

https://www.ochainn.ath.cx/pix/outragebus.jpg

is going to have to make a few trips for this one.

I routinely have car drivers put me in more danger than that interfering harridan, why aren't the police out looking for them?
