If you've done your CBT at 16 on an automatic scooter/bike then it will still qualify when your 17 to ride a maximum of 125cc ~15bhp geared or non geared.

So yes, if you did your cbt now on a moped you would not need to re-take it on a geared bike at 17 to be able to ride your yamaha dt125.

Thumbs Up

Wait until you're 17 and can do your CBT on a geared 125 rather than doing it now on a twist and go 50cc.

You don't gain anything by doing it now on a 50cc twist and go, if you wait until you're 17 then you'll be able to do your CBT on a geared 125 and so taught how to ride a geared bike which will be quite useful as you've got a geared bike. Wink

Sure it might be easier on a 50cc twist and go, but its better to mash the gearbox and clutch of the CBT bike learning how to use gears and clutch than it is to mash the gears and clutch on your own bike when trying to learn how to use them on your own. Thumbs Up

however i can see where you are coming from. its definitely a good idea and something to bear in mind.

I can relate to this as it has happened to me in a way. I did my CBT 1 day after my 16th birthday on a twist and go. It was a very worthwhile day but i didn't really learn much new that i couldn't of without expert instruction.

Today my new CBR has arrived and of course it's got gears. I've read countless manuals and watches loads of videos but nothing is the same as practising and doing the real thing.

Therefore i think you should wait until you're 17 and do it on a geared 125. You'd get a lot more worthwhile experience, and value for money. Seems if you did that you'd be paying for tuition rather than just the CBT cert'.
