I was donated a helmet from my biker father-in-law and it is a decent helmet, I know it has not been dropped etc otherwise he would have told me! I'd prefer to get my own anyway as I've seen a couple which I like.

The measurements quoted eg 57cm, are these the circumference of your head? If so which point do you measure to get this figure. I know that the best way is to go try it on but I am just wondering

Yeah it's measured around your heaed, like you say.

Think it is from just above the eyebrow...not sure on that one however.

Just try it on, only way you can really check TBO.

Best of luck
Mark

<old man mode> If its not a 100% good fit then don't bother. An ill fitting lid is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

Pull the lid down over your head with your chin against your chest. It should not roll off of your head. Twist it from left to right on your head, there should be little or no movement. There should be no pressure points anywhere in the lid that might cause discomfort and the strap should hold the thing on your bonce. It is often good to get a lid where the cheekpieces are a bit too big and its a bit tight on your face. These wil give over time. If its too tight round the crown of your head or at the back you need a bigger size.

This has been an anouncement by the "keeping new riders safe from themselves" initiative.

Thank you for your time. </old man mode>

Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

There is also the Finger and Hamster test. Smile

The helmet should be tight enough to make your cheeks squash up , a bit like a hamster. And if you can get your finger between your helmet and your forehead, then the helmet is too big. Wink

P.s don't forget that the polystirene inside helmets hardens over time giving little or no protection Sad

I've measured my swede and it is almost 60cm. Going to try a few on and see which is the best fit, on a bit of a budget though. Anyone know of where I can get some reviews on lids?

What you need to do, is find a helmet that fits comfortably, and then get the next size down. thats what i did with my HJC and although it was almost painfully tight to begin with, now it is perfect!
Good lid? You want one of those Craft ones, they look pure Twisted Evil .
