Hi, As some of you may know I recently purchased two cb550's in basket case condition off ebay for £220.

Here is the ebay add description:

Quote:
Two honda cb550f for spares or repair, I have one log book can't see the numbers on the other frame very well, engines stripped down one completely the other top and sides but think all parts are there plus two sets of carbs, most of the other parts are there cables, wiring, switches and clocks etc these are not brilliant, just need odd items like air filler box cover, seat, maybe other small items brackets nuts and bolts.

The good bits forks, one exhaust, mud guards front new (honda) the rear is the early type and don't have that number plate holder, frames have been blasted and sprayed in two pack but the the one i was building up needs a small weld on n/s footrest bracket other frame ok. One of the seats could be recovered as the base is good the other looks home made, only one good tank, all the wheels will need rims.

There is enough bits to make one full bike at least, But I'm going to try and make two, one standard bike , and one cafe racer.
I haven't set a budget.
No time limit.
I will do them one at a time , IE, sort one engine out , one frame out ,one set of forks out ect , then build that bike up , once it's up running and mot'd then I will start on the other one, I will be doing the standard bike first, as once thats done It will be used as our main bike , so I will go on the back of it with my dad.
The cafe racer is going to be done to show standard , and that will get taken to bike shows and rallies once done.

Here are some pictures, I will be getting some better ones tomorrow hopefully.

Has any one got a cb550/400 haynes manual/Clymer manual that they no longer need and wish to sell on ? If so please say. Because I don't think I'm going to get any where trying to rebuild the two stripped engines with out one.

I'm pretty sure thats an aftermarket seat, prolly a Guillari (SP?) the originals IIRC didnt have a rear hump, and the bases had a tendency to rot out.

You did well on the rear mudguard, they usually rot out under the cross brace.

Its worth getting a parts book from Dave silver, they are full of exploded diagrams that give a good idea how stuff goes together, V usefull along with a Haynes.

How much do DS charge for there parts books ?
And yes that seat is an after market one, the road going bike is going to have a proper double one and the cafe racer will have a custom made single.

I have spent the whole day moving ALL the parts bar the rolling frame to up stairs in the garage, as i am starting to run out of room down stairs.
I will mock-up the cafe racer upstairs at some point, so that I can see what parts are needed for me to have two rolling frames.
I also need to rebuild the engines at some point Confused.
I think I'm going to have to buy a hayens manual and pester dad in to to giving me a hand for once.Shocked
