Found out my grans dying

Hey,
Well my month started off amazingly well. Started seeing an amazing new girl and everything was staring to look rosey.

Well just got the news today that my gran has only weeks to live. She had a heart attack a month ago which damaged her heart quite badly. She came out of hospital and back home but today was back in hospital and quite poorly.

My first reaction was to cry I feel really guilty because over the last few months i've neglected alot of my family. Been far to busy in my own little world. Meeting women, gym, out drinking.

Right now i don't know how to feel. Worst part is knowing shes going to die in the very near future. (Yes im well aware were all going to die) Just gonna dread hearing the phone ring because i know one day soon its gonna be bad news

I've never had family members die before, apart from my grandad but i was too young to remember. So not really sure how to feel at the moment or react.

Sorry if thats all waffle. Just helped to spill it all out.

I agree with Ariel. Was told 6 weeks ago that my dad has between 6 and 9 months to live. I don't really know how to deal with this but I'm trying to spend more time with him although he lives in Scotland and I live in Sussex
Strangely, the thing that annoys me most is that my dad is 65, has just retired, and is about to die. He's meant to be enjoying this time and playing golf etc,etc.

I had my Gran die in April.

A month ago she was walking around Skegness with her daughter fromthe USA. Only 2 weeks later she was in hospital with advanced cancer which was spreading.

We were all gutted, shocked and upset as she left her frail husband of 60 odd years together, behind. He's never got over it and it's just as heartbreaking watching someone just give up their life which is what he has done.

My nan has just died of Cancer of the liver but luckily i managed to get to the hospital from work (about 200 miles) for her last night.

Im gutted that she has gone, and i'll cry at the funeral. But as harsh as it sounds, you have to try and move on with life. I know its what my nan would have wanted, and i know she was always proud of me.

Just be strong fella...

Hi Shaun,

don't feel bad, if your gran is anything like mine she will be happy that you are doing well,

take some time out to be with your family and when you feel sad, look through your photos and share all the good memories, it will upset you but have a good cry and you'll feel miles better afterwards,

Yer The warped one aka Mark is my brother. He's working away at the moment. My dad didnt want him to know until he got home. Unfortuantely i didnt know that

Im off to see her in hospital Thursday after work.

Got another very minor dillema at the moment too. Not sure if i should tell my new GF or not. I dont wanna burden her with my woes right now. After all ive only known her 2 weeks!

One thing I remember my Gran saying to me a week before she passed is that it happens to us all.

IMO she died the perfect death. No long term suffering, lived life almost to the end and she died with her family round her in her sleep. We all got to say goodbye. A fitting end to a life which has achieved lots.

must come to an end sometime....but its only natural to feel sad.


just try and get on with things and make sure she knows you love her before she goes.

I thought that everybody knew we are bro's, and as Shaun said i'm working away in Luton, a was enjoying this 4* hotel i'm in but it's now like a prison holding me me until friday when I get to come home, so i'll be seeing her then.

My gran is proof that tney do 'make them like they used too' she s still alive and kicking now. She is frail as fook but still the tough old bird who loves her sherry and loves chamaigne and strawberries more.

Look at it this way, at least you know it's coming. You can spend extra time with her now before she goes. When my nan died I was up to the same sort of thing you were, out a lot, didnt see her as often as I used too, and then had a phone call to see she had died and all I could think of is how we used to do loads together (she used to play football with me when I was a little lad, something my dad has never done) and now she's gone

So make sure you spend as much time with her as you can!!
