I.e. one that gets its time from radio signals.

I'm after a new watch for swimming and have seen a few of these for sale at Argos
E.g.

My concern is that the radio receiver would reduce the battery life.

Does any one own such a watch and if so, what's the battery life like?

Thanks

Mark

I think they only update either once a day or once a week.

I had an alarm clock which updated every night at midnight, that was mains powered though so i'm not much help!

Receiving a signal, takes very little from a battery.
I've got one of these:-

Solar powered & atomic clock radio setting. It's a very tough watch, and I'm very pleased with it after 2 1/2 years of owning it.

It even puts up with the vibrations from my Buell. Very Happy

I bought a casio wave ceptor Smile

It tries up to 6 updates a day but cancels the other 5 as soon as 1 succeeds so good for the battery.

Thanks

I thought the Greenwich signal was sent at 8am every morning and did not require any 'poll' message. It just gets sent.

Its every British man's right to have a radio signal to tell him the time, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Laughing

Nay. One of my university projects revolved around this signal.

The signal is sent on 60kHZ (so the watch needs a 60kHz receiver) and is transmitted from Anthorn. You're right in that it doesn't need a 'poll' message, but the signal's sent every second of every day, 24/7. It takes 60 seconds to send the time and date for the next minute.

E.g....

Then you don't want one of those

means it can just about be worn in the shower.

See here.
You want one at least 100m, ideally 200m.
The hassle with these is when the battery needs replacement you need to take it to a place that can do the right pressure tests. At the moment this costs around £30 to £40.

The Casio G-Shock (example see here) is one to look at, or there's Casio's Wave Ceptor range Doh!, that you already have.

Hope this helps someone else though Thumbs Up
