Hi there,

I'm sure this must have been covered before but nothing helpful coming up on the search.
I'm after a pair of boots - can anyone recommend a cheap internet site for bike gear?

cheers

John

p.s. what is the difference between road boots and touring boots?

It's best to try on boots before you buy as they all come up differently, like shoes.

Sports boots have more protection, venting and replaceable toe sliders, whereas touring boots will be geared towards all day comfort and being water proof, but they won't be as protective.

Swift M2R boots I think they are called.

Awesome boots, 100% waterproof! I use mine everyday, last about 2 years before needing replacement!

Defo think trying before buying is a good idea, took me about 3-4 hours of trying on time before i found something comfy, ended up with Alpinestar supertech r's.

I think you should definitely try before you buy, as ill-fitting boots will kill you on and off the bike. I found that Sidis are quite narrow boots, and painful off the bike (I had couriers, years ago). I then went for a pair of Gaerne waterproof boots, and they are wider. Good for walking around in for a couple of hours before the lack of flex starts to chafe. Waterproofing is iffy, though - some damp crept in after a rainy commute.

Another vote for Oxtar

This site has some real bargains, if they have your size. £150 down to £70

I've got these but mine don't last any where near 2 years. Maximum 6 months but I don't complain when the only cost £15 lol. Waterproof in everything but snow that had built up on my boot and then melted its way in. Need to go and buy a new pair now though.

I like the look of those oxtars for £70, may buy some as they will match my leathers quite well and keep the swifts for with my textiles. I'm going to run out of space soon lol.

I suppose I do a fair bit of walking in them and have done a fair few miles in them. Next pair I buy will be my third. On my first the zip went but I didn't get new ones till holes were nearly in the sole.

I'm an 11 in trainers and 11 in the boots. One thing that pisses me off though is how much they give. At first they are quite narrow but after a while the just collapse and go really wide and look shite.

another vote for the Swift M2r's, they are good boots but they don't last more than 8 months, the sole it too soft. Also its not petrol resistant.

I currently have some puma boots, they are goretex which is nice and were £130, look just as good as when i got them.
