Chatting in the office today and road signs popped up in conversation...Riveting huh?

Anyway, he then explained that he read somewhere that the elderly people across the UK are angry due to the road sign, here is the article and sign;

BBC website wrote:
The offensive road sign that's seen on streets all across the UK.

This is the red triangle warning about elderly people crossing the road.

The iconic sign, which was designed by a school pupil in 1981, shows a man and a woman, the man walking with a stick. Both figures are slightly bent over.

The Daily Mail is one of several papers to report that campaigners for older people have complained because it doesn't represent modern pensioners.

The Mail sums it up with a clever headline: "Beware - elderly people getting crosser."

https://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r94/Neileng/elderly.jpg

This is another GREAT example of this country going bloody crazy and having nothing better to do with their time than to think of ways to waste our governments precious time by having to deal with this and possibly change these signs all over the country. ITS A WARNING SIGN, its there for a reason, you own bloody safety.

Its a load of bull, what else are they going to have instead of this sign? You need something that clearly warns you of dangers on the roads. What will they do next? Have a white AND a black siluete on the sign? Have the children removed from the school warning signs as not ALL children can run? Rolling Eyes

Honestly, shut up and get on with your sad little lives... Evil or Very Mad

Never mind the sign. They ought to fit some of them with flashing orange lights.

A good excuse for a caption compo of sorts... What would you have instead. What iconic symbol represents old people?

A pair of pork pie shoes? Maybe just a walking stick? Would an incontenance pad be to ambiguous?

I feel a paint diagram coming on... (I should really get a proper job... Rolling Eyes )

Thumbs Up

Maybe they should change it; many modern pensioners are in cars and they're a far bigger danger than the ones on foot!! Shocked

If pensioners are making a fuss over it they should just do away with those signs, they're for the pensioners benefit so if they want to complain about the signs then the easiest answer is to just get rid of the signs. Smile

Not a bad idea at all, then when they are all getting ploughed they can start moaning about bringing back the signs.

Really, im willing to bet that its perhaps 2 or 3 pensioners in a bingo hall that were tutting about it, presumably because they have absolutely nothing else at all to do, however, the papers take this 2 or 3, and use it as a basis for the entire 60+ population, much like the headlines "Muslims are offended by christmas lights" when really, they dont give a flying shit and are like "errr, what was that??" when you bring it up in conversation as they too have never heard such utter utter shite in their lives.

Nah nah nah. The ones getting ploughed into won't be doing any more complaining about anything. Then there's the saving for society in respect of less state pensions, less medical care, less prescriptions, etc etc etc.

Yes, I'm a cunt. Razz

You need to read between the lines and see it is a plot by the government bastard child scum to rid this piss pot sham of a dictatorial crappy country of old people who have squandered their lives by not seeing that their excuse of a life has buggered up the land and they are still leaching, like the parasitic scum they are, on the depraved society that we have to fester within. anyone with even the smallest IQ can see the facts for themselves or are you just moronic sheep being shafted by the Internet scum suckers. WTF?? This is ridiculous. What about a sign showing a pension book some false teeth and a pack of Werthers Original instead? Oh and a bingo card as well, just so nobody's left out

The internationally recognised symbol for disabled toilets/parking spaces, etc clearly depicts someone in a wheelchair, yet I haven't heard a single complaint that this isn't representative of all people with disabilities.

As Ste said, if they don't like the signs, why not get rid of them altogether?

If they reinvented the OAP sign, what would they come up?

If the stop sign was invented today. Laughing

Looks like we need more signs , for the first time ever people of pensionable age out number under 16s , this is a huge demographic shift which means more taxes..
