Usually the asterisk means its got to be garaged or is slightly higher than the standard area.

To be honest I'd take the above with a pinch of salt, as its been floating round for ages now. And insurance companies all work off their own criteria.

Engineering was huge here in the 1850's, but nowadays its largly gone.
It also says there are 10.6 burglary dwelling offences per 1000 people. Thats 1 in a 100 will be burgled. Sorry I dont agree.

Hiking up the premiums due to the riots is hardly a just way of deciding premiums. There was very little damage done outside of the asian areas so statistically it shouldn't have any affect on the rest of the town unless there is a forced integration policy and the asians get spread throughout the town.
It was also 7 years ago and there hasn't been a repeat of it yet. surely the town should have built up 7 nears ncb by now?

Dont get me wrong, I think Oldhams a shithole, but I also think that insurance companies would hike the premiums for something simple like a kid stealing milk from a doorstep.

Oldham is bang up there for insurance fraud, unpaid direct debits and high theft and general crime rates, granted it's vague but most companies gather their own actuarial information and offset it against the rest of the market and the independent and government statistics so there is some science to it.

And yes generally speaking Oldham is a shithole, i'd much rather park my bike somewhere in the oxford area
