Hi all

Just got back from the first trip abroad on the ZZR (France) and loved it, so much so we are going to squeeze in another trip. Anyway, she who must be obeyed has decreed that we will be going to spain around October time. Will catch the Plymouth - Santander ferry and stay in a hotel in the picos de europa national park for a few nights

The mountains etc look stunning and i was wondering if anyone on here has been that way on a bike ? and if so, was it any good ?

Cheers
Joey

Cheers for the link but i was hoping for a bit more info specific to the picos de europa.

Also, while we're here, I saw on another site that you should get a "bail bond" before you got to Spain..........thats a new one to me. Looked it up and i'm not sure it is worth it, and some insurance companies dont issue them anymore, has any one else bothered with one ?

Cheers
Joey

I didn't go to the Picos , Ross has , he recommends it highly its sort of like Cornwall verywhere very green he says, its humid in the northern bit dry before the plataeu and sort of inbetween near the middle (doh) ,however excellent riding roads are a tad rare , compared to say the Pyranees.

Also the ride across the coast to get to the Picos can be rainy windy and chilly and horribly humid even on cool days.

Bail bonds are only needed if you are VERY bad in Spain, ie an arrestable offence, , its more applicable to chavs who go to Spanish resorts and get too drunk and fight...

My bike insurance came with bail bond on the back but you don't need them these days.

There's fabulous riding in the Picos and the people are lovely too. The road to Potes from the coast is good, then carry on up to Riano then you'll have a wonderful long twisty ride back to the coast near Cangas de Ones. Basically get yourself a Michelin map and follow the green highlighted roads. Some of them are a little too narrow & twisty for fast speeds but great riding roads nonetheless

It feels a bit dodgy asking an insurance company for a "bail bond" in advance. You know next years premium has gone up before the words have finished leaving your mouth.

Excellent, you'll have to go up in the cable car.Great views if there's no cloud. There's a road from Cangas deOnes back to Potes so if you're staying there it's a wonderful days ride out
