If i taxed my bike online is it all legal to ride before I get my disc or do I legally have to wait?

I'm waiting on my cover note from insurance that's why if it's all legal its easier to tax it online than at post office so I can ride straight away lol

cheers

i had exactly the same thing happen to me when i first got my cbr.

bought the bike with no tax, insured it straight away but unfortunatly it takes around two weeks for the insurance database to be updated so you cant do it online Sad . i had to wait for my covernote to arrive which took a record 4 days(4 days of agony) then leg it down to the post office as it shut at 12 and our postman is a lazy twat and didn't get to me till 11.30.

so im afraid you will have to do it the old fashioned way Rolling Eyes

I taxed mine on line recently, because i lost all my documents, technicaly failing to display a tax disc is an offence so might be a problem if you get pulled over, But if your reg is checked whilst your going along it will be down as having tax on the computer.

Its up to you if you want to risk it, but there is also the fact you cannot park an untaxed vehicle on the public highway and if no one bothers checking the computers you could be in trouble.

It only took two days for my tax disc to arrive anyway, so it could turn up before your cover note but then again it could take longer.

Failure to display tax disc. Wink

Legally, you're not allowed to ride it until you have the disc, just depends on the copper you get really if you get stopped

Leave the old one in the holder or give the excuse that someone knicked it. I only noticed one day that my tax was missing, could've been that day, that week or month?

Most people, or it would seem so when threads appear, don't even display theres* in the first place.

I had my tax disc nicked in the past, so didn't bother fitting the new one, I was pulled over by a bike copper that was doing ramdom tax checks and asked where my disc was,

I told him it was in my pocket becuase i had the last one nicked, he said fair enough mate i don't blame you and let me go on my way,

but it could have easily gone the other and left me with a fine or whatever for failure to display, so i always display now and make sure i have a good quality tax disc holder so no one can nick it.

Its easier to nick a tax disc of a bike because you don't need to break any windows to get at them,

Its not as common as it used to be since the police can just check your reg to see if you have tax so displaying a stolen "valid" tax disc is pretty much pointless.

You will not be able to tax it online until your insurance is registered on the database.

Is the bike a new purchase, if so you will not be able tax online until the bike is on the DVLA database as yours.
Wait for the cover note then use the post office.

It is an offence not to display a tax disc, it's ok listening to other people saying when were you last pulled etc, you don't even need to be on it, it could be parked up somewhere and you could get a ticket.

And it's no good saying the tax disc was nicked, the computer to police and VOSA use knows when the tax expired. It's not worth getting a £60 ticket for.

If you tax it then ride it....

However DONT park it anywher that traffic wardens go ast they are over zelous cvnts who will check and will issue you with a ticket for not displaying a valid tax disc and there is nothing you can do about it but pay up.... I speak from experience as i got done for not displaying despite having bought online, more hacked off when i got home to find the new disc had finally arrived Evil or Very Mad
