Just wanting some opinions on this.

On my CB one of the back shocks was pissing out oil, so I bought some replacements and started fitting them,

Had to take zorst off to fit them, found that the downpipes have basically fused to the cylinder.

Oh , and one of the bolts to the cylinder snapped off.

So....

Either I get my garage to botch current pipes back on (at estimated cost of ~£40-£60) or I buy standard Honda pipes again (£130 + £40-£60 fitting) or buy stainless downpipes for £140 and get them fitted.

I'm a bit stuck here, either I pay a lot and possibly let the bike carry on for a fair while longer or pay a little and risk the pipes blowing etc.

What would you do?

Hi

If there is nothing really wrong with the pipes on there then get the stud sorted and put the pipes back on.

All the best

Drill the stud out, re-tap if you need to and fit the originals.

Job done.

There is hardly any room to undo the bottom shock bolts. Instead of taking the exhaust out you can get at them by either taking the back wheel off then pulling the swingarm out or undoing the shock top bolts then lifting the swingarm up to get at them.

Just been through this myself to get to the sump, spent a load of money on tools to drill them out but must of been doing something wrong because still couldnt get them out. In the end i just payed for a mechanic to come pick it up, drill them out/heli coil/retap them and refit the pipes. Got some slightly bigger exhaust studs and brass nuts from sickpups shop as well for if/when i need to replace the downpipes. Think it cost about 70-90quid to get that done.
