Why is my tyre going blue?

I noticed yesterday that the rear tyre on my hornet is starting to go blue on the sides. Not at the very edge, not in the middle, but just in between. What causes this then? I've heard a couple of different opinions - one being it's not been used enough and the other being it's being pushed hard through the corners.

Isn't it something to do with the heat causes chemicals in the tyre to react and give it that colour?

Someone will clarify this.

Its to do with the tyre getting hot and cold, it gets hot , when it cools down some of the chemical on the inside comes out....

As I said a few months ago it is the chagrin on many a rider ie you clean off your tyres by riding hard , but go back home on the motorway and they go all blue again.

Its normal and nothing to be worried about...

As itchy said, nothing to worry about.. Tyres are designed to undergo thermal cycles and give off such blueing. Shouldn't worry about it. It's not indicative of any problems and if you have a sports road tyre/touring etc, you'll be fine.

At least you're not experiencing cold tearing (usually racers get this on cold tyres pushing too hard) and it probably shouldn't be discussed here otherwise folk will get confused and be talking about the wrong thing.

I tend to find Dunlops do this very easily.

Thanks chaps! I wasn't worried - I've seen it a few times before on other bikes - just wondering what the exact cause was.
