Not sure whether you're talking day trip out or if you're stopping over, but given that it's about 70 miles each way apart from basic camping bits, I think the suggestions would be similar.

I always make sure the bike's checked over before I go, then I have route/map sorted, mobile phone (charged), bank/credit card and my AA card - that's covered the bike for fuel and any breakdown.

Then for me: I make sure I'm gonna be warm enough and dry and I've money for food. If I'm off on my own I tell my folks where I'm headed and they ask me to call them when I get back. I always keep my photocard driving licence on me too for ID.

+ I guess a camera to take pics for posting on here when you get back!!

Enjoy yourself - Very Happy

In a sense longer journeys are better because you don't sacrifice rider comfort for efficiency.

For example, my morning commute takes about 20 minutes, in terms of discomfort its not to bad so I don't faff about with smocks, waterproofs and I don't worry to much about draft proofing.

On longer journeys though, its worth taking that extra ten minutes to get your gloves or smock on just so. I have heavy textile troos which are uncomfortable to wear over work trousers so I never do, (plus having to get changed at work is a faff) even although they're much warmer. On longer journey's its worthwhile though and getting changed is only a small percentage of your journey's actual time.

Is your bike seat comfy? Regular stops if not. Cool

Thumbs Up
