We, the missiles of the automobile world, are all very different people. Yet, there is something which draws us all together (our bikes, perhaps ).
But why is it that we choose to be bikers? Is it the thrill??
Or the joy of the ride???
Or the sheer stupidity of it???
NB: I, PERSONALLY, DO NOT THINK BIKING IS STUPID
Or perhaps the fuel economy????
What do you think

Probably just because it's fun, alot of people here also seem to be adrenaline junkies as well I reckon
However I think there is a difference between bikers and motorcyclists, some people on here seem a little obsessed
Oh and I doubt it is the fuel economy factor |

It's faster than walking and cheaper than parking a car.
Just happens to be rather good fun as well. |

No we're not in the automobile world.
We are in the Auto Cycle world or Motorcycle. Or bikes!
I ride bikes because they are much more fun and interesting than cars. I think a lot of us are oriented towards performance and cars just don't cut it.
The latest VW golf GTi for example has twice the power of the original Golf GTi. It also weighs twice as much. You would never get this with a new model of bike! I don't want a TV in the headrest of my car, nor air-con or sat-nav. I want to be able to have fun driving! Compared to bikes they are staid and boring.
so I ride instead.
There is also the cameraderie aspect of it, nearly all of my friends ride or have ridden at one time or another. Without bikes I'd have no friends!
Also there is an aspect of rebellion involved. Whether it be the Marlon Brando type rebellion, or just the "My parents said no, but I'm a grown up so I'll do what I like!".
Also inescapably bikes are undoubtedly cool. Harleys to Hondas, MV's to MZ's, a third class ride is better than a first class walk. And any ride is cooler than a walk, drive or bus/train ride.
Scooters don't count as bikes in terms of cool IMVHO
Basically, biking rocks!
{edit} For me there is also a mildly nerdy aspect in that I am fascinated by the engineering and technology of bikes, whereas cars are somehow dull! {edit} ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

True to the last word, although the scooter mob might have something to say about your *honest* opinion
Rebellion sounds like my cause! Everyone said no, I said try to stop me |

I share a similar fascination with bikes as well, and will hopefully get into the whole biking scene when I have some cash However I have always had a rather soft spot for mini's, don't think that will ever die or be overshadowed by bikes, however apart from that I am not really interested in cars at all, infact I find driving a chore and I haven't even got my license yet |

I'm afraid it isn't an anti-car thing with me. I'm happiest having the choice between the two... in an ideal world I'd have a silly sports car too, but I can't afford one. |

Well If I were to come to work by car...
The last time my Dad gave me a lift to work when my bike was in for a service it took us an hour to get there, and that was without parking. Parking would cost an extortionate amount in Reading and would also take ages. Plus the bike parking is two minutes walk from my office rather than ten minutes from the nearest car park.
On a bad day it takes me twenty five minutes to get here, and quarter of an hour on a good day! Quite a difference eh? ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Bikes certainly do save time! Takes me about 5 minutes to get to work but closer to half an hour by car 'cos of the silly traffic.
I don't quite get how Bendy's managed 5mins faster by car though...............

By the time you've kitted up etc you lose any potential speed saving for me getting to work compared to using the car.
My bike is just for fun as I can't afford a very fast sports car, so I'm a biker to satisfy my need of cheating death. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

It calms me down, like skating for me. Lately I've been having very bad times, but when I straddle that lump of metal and turn the ignition, it all goes away. All I think is where to hit that next corner, or when is it going to be clear so I can pass and hmm, isn't she fit. Its escapism for me. ____________________ www.wilcollinsphoto.co.uk |
