Reading through these forums seems as though a crash is inevitable, and of course, it's always the other guy's fault Wink .

So, was just wondering has anyone on here not had a crash (a stationary drop or training incident doesn't count).

How long have you managed and how?

None, usually do about 10-20k a year. Only been riding for 6 years though.

How have I done it? Well, for a start, I don't think it's about skill, probably 50% ability, 50% luck more than anything else and I always bear that in mind. I have yet to come acropper on a patch of diesel or loose gravel whilst cornering, however, that doesn't mean it won't happen tomorrow. I don't generally go above 90mph for fear of losing my license, and if I do, I am like a hawk on my mirrors. Scoping out everycar I go by, every slip road, watching my mirrors all the time. Probably more than necessary but I've yet to have any points. I'm also not into all of this knee down malarky. I ride for myself, I don't go stupidly slow but nor do I try and corner faster and smoother than ever before so I can brag about it to my mates on msn/forums. I have probably matured before my time with regards to riding styles but I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

I'm thankfully someone who just gets their thrills from being on a bike, no matter what speed or scenario, I love it. I'd also have a dnepr & sidecar over some italian exotica piece of crap so make of that what you will. Smile

Oh and before those that comment = crashing isn't cool. Thumbs Up

My moped, crashed on ice, my fault for being inexperienced I guess.

My NSR crashed twice in poor weather, and once was a brake failure, both my fault entirely.

ZZR250, not crashed, selling it to my Dad tonight so I'm quite please with myself Very Happy.

i have crashed. i didn't for the first year, but then i crashed on a situation where i was being stupid. i speeded at about 40 on a speed bump and it jumped me up and i dropped down on the left side.

the reason was because i was late for work once and got diverted by the police. it was a very frosty morning and there was a collision on the road so i got told to go another way. i somehow ended up way almost the other side of my borough (hackney) which was no where near work. so i kept on a steady speed of 40 and 50 to get to work on time. i should have really used common sense and said wait a minute, that car crashed because it was frosty so maybe i should take it easy.

it's taught me a good lesson. it hurt in the bank balance too. i am not particularly materialistic and value money above all else, but i am definitely not going to do any stupid like speeding on bumps because it will cost a fortune.

Can't ride a bike properly without falling off.

a couple of low-speed accidents when I was a n00b. Very little damage done and I was unhurt.

I've also dropped the TZR when I stalled it at the lights once, duh.

Been riding 2 years 10k miles so far purely on twistiest roads I can find. Despite some near misses (spinning up on diesel and lock to lock tankslapper) not binned it yet.

Nearest I came was when the bike walked off its sidestand when I turned my back whilst washing it. Turned round and caught it with one hand as other was full of sponge! Thought I'd broken my wrist it certainly went with a twang!

All down to dumb luck. This week my spare oil bottle under the pillion seat leaked all over the back wheel and brake. Despite slithering about for a bit on the bends I didn't notice until I stopped at lights and saw the smoke all about me, then the top of bottle must have come off the whole way cause it REALLY gushed out.

Lucky I didn't fall off there, and taught me to tape caps on no matter how secure they seem...

I haven't crashed yet, but understand my limits. Just because I haven't come off, doesn't mean I haven't been close to doing so.

It's very rare that I have a near miss these days, but even on the way home today, riding a previously unknown backroad, I felt the front almost let go on a patch of gravel I should have expected. Experience of machine control prevented me from coming off, but it could have been worse. I wouldn't chalk that one down as a near miss though; there was no heart-in-the-mouth feeling during or after the encounter.

I guess a better example of a near miss was a couple of weeks ago - a dozy van driver almost t-boned me on a roundabout. So close was the encounter was that I bet I could hear his radiator fan churning away. I don't know what got me out of the situation - maybe a subconscious blip of acceleration to get me clear and straighten my line, even though the diameter of the roundabout, for the junction I require each day, is a single-line affair. It could so easily have been a lot worse and definately makes me approach that roundabout slightly differently now.

I continue to develop my limits through riding, whether it be speed, road craft, awareness, etc. My limits and frame of mind also changes slightly, depending which bike I'm riding.

No falls yet!

Although I did drop my training schools bike doing a U Turn and then dropped my own while I wasn't on it. The lovely scratch on the tank will remind me to make sure the side stand is up properly next time!

I've dropped mine due to daft things (forgetting disk lock, HAIL! Rolling Eyes , just general droppage) but never above 5mph,

I've NEARLY crashed countless times, but always been able to spot it or got lucky.

I don't think I'm an immense rider or anything, I just do a constant risk assessment in my head, before doing anything stupid.

I have a fair idea of my limits and the only time I ride past them is when something riles me, be it another bike zooming past me, I challenge anyone <25 years old(or anyone!) not to take it up on that one!

What you've never come to a halt on the ground and done the test each limb to see if it functions trick.

Well I can move my left leg, my right leg, ohh so far so good, now for the right arm, it seems okay, left arm seems okay.

Followed by loads of old car drivers, being really helpfull....

Oh and the noise of the back protector making the flapping thud noise as you land on your back, and realising that £15 you spent at the NEC, was the best £15 you've ever spent in your life.

Crashes can happen to us all. I swerved to avoid a car driving on the wrong side of the road coming out of a bend.

4 times, but all on track.

There have been hedge/moped incidents but none that caused any damage.

Once in the pits. Once on track, and never on the road. Dropped my old road hornet doing a U turn once, but that doesn't really count as a crash.....

Dropped a mates Deauville on myself when getting off by not raising my leg high enough, what a pillock, but then even worse got trapped underneath and against the wall it was parked next to...not really a crash.

But got knocked off back in April on the M4. I'd say it was 100% bad luck that it happened, and 100% good luck that I'm still here.

Riding bikes is essentially a calculated gamble that take into acount a heap of factors. So someone who has never had a prang, is essentially both very lucky, and good at calculating the risks........

But I now feel a bit sorry for all those people who have replied saying that they've not had a prang, go and touch some wood Exclamation

Inexperienced at the time I washed the front end of my r6 out when riding beyond than my ability, bike completely totalled but I was lucky and slid down the road without hitting lamposts etc. Leathers were wrecked.

Spun the backend of my k6 750 and dropped it when getting too low in a corner - was about 45mph so mushrooms proved worth their weight in gold.

Now I just go on tracks where crashing is expected Smile
