Does anyone happen to know whether having your bike MOT'd after 3 years goes on the year of manufacture, or the year of registration?

The bike is a 2005, however it was registered in 2007, does it need doing this year?

Cheers Smile

Hi

Not sure, but if it was registered abroad first then I would expect it to need MOTing a year after first UK registration.

All the best

I bought it new in Spain, used it for a couple of years there, then brought it here, so I think it was classed as second hand when imported.

It was registered in Spain first, anywhere it says it'll need an MOT after the first year?

Hi

Found this:-

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022112

Quote:
If a vehicle is used prior to registration, as would be the case with an import, the MOT will be required three years from the end of the year of manufacture. For example a vehicle manufactured at any time in 2004 will require an MOT no later than 31 December 2007. There is no grace period given after these dates.

Given that the DVLA have no real idea of when an import was first used this does sort of make sense (although I am surprised they do not assume the start of the year of manufacture).

All the best

Keith

If it was used abroad then it will need an MoT 3 years from the date manufacture, if it is older than 3 years it will need an MoT before it is offered a UK registration number.
