Heya all, my friends just offered me his VTR 1000 Firestorm.

Now as you can see, he was forced off the road the other day and went down a ditch.

He got the bike trailerd home - Bike runs fine, obviously needs a few bits sorting out. comes with a good few boxes of spares, including a frame + V5 - Even though this ones fine.

£500 - do you think i should go for it??

Nothing a bit of gaffer and some straight bars will do.

Only thing that slightly concerns me is the serious corrosion and pitting around the fork clamps.

If it runs fine, and the frame and expensive bits are ok. Sounds like a bargain.

Bin the broken plastics, get some replacement cheapies from ebay. Some street fighter bits and bobs and you'll have an amazing bike for very little.

He would get more than £300 for the engine and frame alone so doubt he would accept...no harm in trying though.

If you want to return it to original then no, it's not worth it - fairings for the firestorm are horrendously sought after on ebay so reach top dollar. Radiators aren't cheap either. They would be the major expense in my eyes.

I second that.

It's worth more than £500 if broken for spares, but IMO not worth buying to break... as all the expensive parts look fucked!

It's definetly not worth buying to put back to standard condition, needs way too much work/parts and doubt you'd spend less than you can buy a mint one for in the end.

Sure but as a bike, it's not looking like a viable project, not for £500 anyway.

Of course, if it was worthwhile then why isn't the guy breaking it himself? You have to sell all the parts to make your money. If you can stand the hassle of doing the work, advertising, shipping and waiting for the bits to sell to make a couple of hundred then that's fine but it can quickly become tiresome.

To put it in perspective, I turned down a taxed & tested zx12-r ratbike for £1100 last weekend. I would sooner buy that for the £1100 than the Firestorm for 5.

£300s a bargain if it runs and the forks and frame are straight. The running engine, and 2 frames with v5s could be sold for £500.

Only worth havin if the forks and frame are sound. You'll have to have it checked to know that. £500? No chance.

Forks aren't straight, and the lockstops will have had it and need welding. £500? He's having a giraffe.

£500 for a high miler with a cracked fairing/damaged rad maybe...

But £500 for effectively a running engine/ OK swingarm /possibly OK frame and OK rear wheel is taking the piss. With that level of damage the front wheel will probably be dinged, I can see that the forks /are/ bent, the plastics are all damaged, the exhaust looks bent into the swingarm, the VERY EXPENSIVE radiators are both fcuked, the frame isn't the right shape around the main spars near the headstock (and is very very scuffed), the frame looks odd near the footpeg hangers too (like its been filled with bodyfiller almost). The subframe doesn't look straight.

Don't touch it with a bargepole. I don't claim to have an expert eye, but if I can spot that much then I can't understand how anyone would have enough shiney bike syndrome to buy that heap.

Its only fit for the scrappy or as an engine for a project IMO.

{edit} Just to give you an idea, here are the bits that seem OK to me: Tank (I can't see it all), Rear wheel, chain, rear sprocket, footrest hangers and maybe the engine. I can't see anything else undamaged on that bike... {edit}

Thanks for the input mate!

Tank isnt dinted or anything, Exhausts are fine, the one that looks off, is just unsprung, i had a look at that earlier. Only 1 rad is fucked, However that was from the guy getting it out of the ditch. Forks seem fine, And both lockstops are intact.

Front wheel is fine, And so are the wavys + Full breaking system, Bars and all ancileries are fine, Clocks brackets are broken, Sub frame is fine, however the 2 little gubbins at the back where the light bolts onto have been pushed upwards, (Broken on the weld). Footpegs and hangers are fine.

Ive just got off the phone with him for the full story.

Riding down A52 (Near costco -derby) If anyone knows it, A car pulled in front of him , and forced him to break hard, which resulted in him slamming it down, Slid along the road, and into the ditch.
