Controlled stop
Lots of frontbreak, Tiny bit of rear, as the bike goes jugger jugger as if its gonna cut out, pull in the clutch
Shoulder obs either side, push to curb, get in right gear/neutral, start up + ride off ____________________ Current bike: 2005 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 :: Previous Bikes: 2001 Kawasaki ZZR-600 E9 (Sold) 1996 Yamaha Diversion 600s (Sold),1997 Honda CB250 Nighthawk (Sold), 1988 Honda VFR 400 NC24 (Written Off), 1987 Honda CB350 S-G (Sold), Yamaha DT125 (Sold), Honda X8R-S 50cc (Stolen) |

I lock my back wheel up deliberately every now and then, and keep it locked, that way i get better at controlling it when its locked, so hopeful in an unexpected lock-up situation, I can react better.
Cheers

If you are braking to the maximum potential of the front brake, the rear wheel is hardly touching the ground.
Different with older bikes like drum braked CG125s and anything made before, say 1985 though, the balance is different and you need to use more back brake on account of the front one being shit.
One serious tip though, could save your life. If you have to suddenly brake on account of a hazard up ahead, whatever is behind you will have to brake equally suddenly. A modern sports bike can come to a halt on a dry road in distances approaching those of a formula 1 car. A business rep driving far too fast and close to the car in front in a Vectra cannot.
Don't be at the back of a queue of stopping traffic, dive up a gap, get someone between you and that rep or you could land up being the filling in a car sandwich. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I find just gentle pressure on the back brake helps keep it stable
May just be pshycological i guess, but it feels like the back of the bike is squirming around less when the back brake is used
Scary how fast a bike can stop if it is well maintained
First time i stopped sharp on the CG i nearly toppled to the side when i had stopped cos i ended up on top of the tank.
And that was a single front disc and compared to modern bikes very poor stopping power.
Go to a quiet road, or big car park to practise stopping quickly
You dont want to be learning how to brake when you really need to have stopped 2 meters ago. ____________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was in CBT earlier in the week the instructor said to me
"when you do the emergency dont be afraid to pull the front brakes quite hard, you wont go over the front or loose control, its not a push bike."
So I did, and the the front wheel came away from me and I lost control and the bike went over. I controlled the fall well though
I guess its about applying the right pressure than not just pulling it on hard. ____________________ Current - 2007 Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 - 1999 Suzuki TL1000R

Thanks, was out trying it a bit more earlier, definatey works much better as you say starting off lightly then building to max, I never realised just how efficient the front brake was, might need some padding on the tank for next time ____________________ Current - 2007 Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 - 1999 Suzuki TL1000R
