Right that annoying advert on tv says about making sure you do the V5 and stuff or you could pay for the new owners fine of not getting it taxed??????

So couldn't you just report it stolen then?? as it would still be YOUR car???

or have i missed the point (again LOL)

Doing the V5 should be done by the person selling the vehicle, as they will be the one getting fines and police after them if the new owner doesn't tax it or SORN it, or goes through speed traps etc.

Reporting it stolen would be more effort than delcaring it SORN (fill in a form at the Post Office for this I believe). And it means you'll have to at some point declare it unstolen Laughing.

If you have the V5 in your name and don't tax it or declare it SORN, then you'll get an automatic fine through the door from the DVLA. It being stolen probably also won't stop this, you'll just have to write letters to them and stuff with the crime numbers.

So how about a sweep stake on how long until Goose gets caught out with that while he is away at sea?

All the best

It is already happening, and there is no appeals procedure.

Another nice little money spinner from road users to the government.

All the best

I hate the F*cking government, the council and the DVLA, I intend to launch a campaign against the speed traps in my town soon. They have stuck them in stupid places and they will pay.

Hiya
Just because the person has the v5 it does not mean that the vehicle is theirs, so reporting it stolen would not work. Example is if you take your bike to a garage, and cant pay for the work that they need doing, the bike is classified under law as their property in some strange way. If they tell you that they are keeping the bike untill you pay, and you go and get it in the middle of the night without them knowing, you can be charged with stealing your own bike!!
As for the SORN thing, it definitely worth doing it! Loads of the lads on the forces estates at home have gone away and left their cars out on the roads, and everyday there are a few being taken to the scrappers! Poor gits. Evil or Very Mad
DVLA are money grabbers anyway. In the news the other day they were saying how the council are spending so much money on compensation, when in reality, if they bothered to take care of the roads then they wouldn't be in the mess they are in! They leave the roads until they are this bad, just patching them up when they get a complaint so our roads are bumpy and uneven.
Perhaps if they spent less of our money on speed cameras, (supposedly for road safety) and more money on improving the quality (and therefore SAFETY!) of our roads they woudlnt be having these problems. The amount of money they spend on pollution monitoring centres would probably help a great deal towards fixing the roads too.

They need to face up to things, more people in the country = more cars. More asylum seekers = less money for public services including road repairs. More cars, more people = inevitably more pollution. The government is worried about it's image - not it's people, and dont think about how they could really spend money on fixing their problems. At the minute, they are spending money on things that will cause problems!

Sorry, but I had to have my say!

I have been looking into what happens if you just don't pay a shop for work done, and as you say, the bike becomes thier property until the bill has been settled. The action you can take is to pay the bill under protest, then immediately start legal action against them to reimburse the amount in dispute. Many shops if they know they are in the wrong will sort themselves out at this point.

Most the of the gatso cameras are earning money, hence why they place them in the places they do. My issue would be in thier choice of positions, and what it done with the money raised. It should not be spent on the giving lavish offices etc to those involved; it should be put into improving the roads, and dealing with why that place is an accident blackspot, perhaps changing the road layout, increasing visibility, changing road signs, or just remove the bright yellow gatso which everyone slams thier brakes on for without a regard for what else is going on around them. Aren't you supposed to do it, as the buyer of the new bike?

I had to take the V5 for my VFR and fill it him for him...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Nope, the seller is supposed to fill in the form and send it off. Some lazy gits get the buyer to send it off though, and that what is causing all the problems, hence the new adverts etc

When I sold my bike last week the guy wouldn't believe me when I told him that I kept the blue part.

I eventually talked him round though.

Probably would have been easier to point to the back of the V5 where it says that. Wink

Seller fills it in. If they don't; they get speeding tickets, parking tickets, DVLA tax fines etc. It's in thier interest to send it off Laughing. You get a letter from the DVLA to tell you when the V5 has been changed into thier name.

You can indeed as Robby says, buy tax with just the green slip, and the fact your recently purchased the vehicle is not an excuse for not having tax.

Insurance must be about £50. Worth getting just to build up your no claims, and I kind of thought that was the point in owning a C90 Confused .

I use it to get to work on 5 days a week about 8 miles a day. I would get insurance but the insurance is about £150, which I really can't afford at the moment because I need to save up £1000 before June 20th for my holiday. I already have board, etc which come out of my wages so another £150 one month would cripple me and probably fuck up my holiday what with not having enough cash. After my holiday I will be sorted for doing my test and getting a bike on finance which is good Very Happy
