the r125 looks amazing but how will it be used and for how long

if its just till you pass the test i would get a cg125, cheap, keeps its value and will probobly have similar performance.

i'd personally buy a cg125 but i skipped out 125's and went straight to a big bike.

There's a couple of second hand ones on eBay at the moment with only 700 miles on the clock.

£2600

£2550

Much better than buying new as you won't have to run it in and you save £450 Thumbs Up

Running in is a good thing, you can make sure it done right, they might have ragged the engine for the first 600 miles.

Oh dear, dont start another running in thread Laughing

The CG is amazing, but if i was younger and on a CBT the R125 would be the nuts it just looks so good for a 125

Don't do it. Get a rs125.

I was riding with one on my gpr 50 last week and it only just beat me everywhere. I don't like them anyway as when I sat on it the tank felt really high and the clocks far away leaving you feeling very exposed...

Way too expensive and pretty slow - a serious waste of money.

That could have happened to any bike you buy second hand. Are you saying you shouldn't buy a bike second hand then because you don't know if it was ragged when run in?

I know if I was buying an R125 where my money would be going and it wouldn't be on a brand new one. There's just no point when the 2 bikes I posted up are virtually brand new.

I don't know how people figure the R125 to be slow. The standard one I know is respectably nippy. Expensive they are, slow they ain't.

As in how a big bike would feel? Confused you do know bikes 'proper' bikes aren't as small as your Derbi GPR right?

Only if you intend on never changing your bike. Ever. Did it once. Won't bother again. Ride it normally. F*ck running it in. Thumbs Up

Yes, they might have ragged the engine leading it to make more power and be more reliable in the long run.... or more worryingly, they might have followed the manufacturers guidelines, leading to an eventual unreliable engine and general loss of power! Smile

I admit I haven't ridden an R125; but have ridden bikes with similar stats and they certainly seemed 'slow' compared to other 125 alternatives.

What's up with a 600 as a first geared bike?
Restricted to 33hp it'll be a bit but not that hugely faster than the 125 - sure it'll be a bit heavier, but then he'd loose less value if he crashed it relatively - especially if you're including the cost of passing your test in with the £3k.

Reppyboyos point still stands. The op could buy a cheap a cheerful CG to pass their test on and have a good wedge of cash then to buy a 600cc.

Umm...no.

I have sat on loads of 'big bikes' thanks.

I don't like the r125. The screen is too small for me, it feels to open.

Mate I don't think a bike that'll do 70-80mph will be slow.. considering I have a 35mph ped at the moment

It's not such a big thing now, but there's still plenty of situations where you can find yourself one of the slowest vehicles doing 80mph on an A road.
However, the issue is more the acceleration you get from 60-80mph, say.

If you've bought it already <shrugs>, I hope you enjoy it Smile.
