My friend has a VFR400 with km/h speedo and wanted to get them changed, this is the only company we could find that could do this.

I was wondering if anybody has used this company?
Is this a good company?
Is it not illegal to change the kilometers to miles (actual milage)?
Is there anywhere else?

Thanks Marcus

you can get a converter from motrax that just screws onto your existing speedo cable.

I was wondering, would it still be legal and ok for the MOT to just put stickers on for 30, 40 and 70?

You can get like dial stickers to stick on top of the speedo, but I suppose these stickers would need to be put on right and made for your specific bike.

It would appear to be legal as my RST went through it's MOT with just that. I struggle to read my speedo in mph at the dark though, can be a bit distracting when approaching speed cams, if I could find one at a sensible price I'd swap my clocks over in a heart beat.

Its not illegal to change the mileage reading, you could even set it back to zero if you wanted and it would be prefectly legal. What is illegal is misrepresenting the mileage when you come to sell it ie you fail to tell the potential buyer that the bike has infact done 20,000 miles when the clock is actually showing 5 miles.

Similar experience with a car, mate bought a new shape Integra Type R. Found a company on ebay who would change the digital indicator from km tomiles. Whilst plugging in he asked 'you want me to take a few off?'

Dodgy but prob not illegal at all Wink

Hi

It isn't illegal to change the mileage. It is illegal to try and tell people it has the lower mileage when you sell it.

Legally the speedo must show mph and kmh. However it is a construction and use rule and not checked in the MOT (and there are some brand new bikes that have had illegal mph only speedos, such as the Aprilia RS250).

Think for the SVA test (if registering an import) you need to have kmh and mph ont he speedo, with stickers on the outside not being acceptable. Not 100% sure on this though.

All the best

Keith

I just got the face clocks (where it displays the speed) and replaced it with one from an old battered uk spec version.
