OKOK Just another quick one....

My main problem with 50cc was that it was too slow to be on the roads lol.

I plan on keeping the 125 for at least 3 years and in the mean time also invest in a car. Bearing in mind im only 17 and probablly use this 125 to ge tto and from University soon I want to get soemthing decent.

Im stuck between the Aprilia RS125 and the Honda CBR 125.

Im going to sell my current Aprilia SR50 2007 for around £1200 and would be able to top up £200-300 for a 125.

Are there any reccomendations from you guys? for example how much should I be looking to pay/ age/ mileage etc?

Aprilia RS125 will have to have the power valve removed to make it legal within your license and they are also not the best learner bikes. They need top end rebuilds every 10,000k and tend to get ragged senseless by the owners. Try and go for one with very low mileage and you will likely be asked for proof that its restricted (no power valve) by your insurance.

Note however that a 'top end rebuild' is very easy and not something to be scared of.

Myself, I'd go for a cheap second hand NSR125 in good condition and derestrict it if it's not.
I think it's incredibly unlikely your insurance will ask for proof of learner-legal restriction; I have never heard of this before.

Errrr no. The insurance company have to prove it's not restricted if in dispute. As they come into this country restricted that's the Manufacturer's standard. There is no legal rtequirement to prove restriction, nor even a legally accepted way of proving it.
Basically all UK Spec 125s are under the BHP bracket officially.

The NSR is still the best overall 125 and can be picked up for under £1500 easily

Just remember to ride with L plates on at all times (Unless they "Snap off" as they tend to do).

Id go for the CBR but everyones different. depends what you want.

cbr for max reliability and min fuss.
RS for max speed and pose.

Yes but insurance companies can request a dyno read out as a form of proof before providing any insurance cover.

Considering his age it is quite likely they will do this.

Never heard of anyone being asked for proof that their 125 is restricted. Confused

Which is quite lucky given that there is no way you could prove it. Rolling Eyes

Not seperate course no, but you can do your CBT on either and then ride either on the road.

So if you did your CBT on an Auto you can still drive a Manual. Strange I know!

Never ever heard of this. And consireding 8 years riding and the 1000's of members on BCF I'm pretty sure we'd have come across it at some point

The guy before me at the test centre had his test cancelled as he could not prove to the examiner that his RS125 was restricted to the correct power for the licence category he was trying for (restricted full licence) . I dont know how obvious it is to see if an RS125 is restricted or not as i have never owned one but i suspect the examiner could tell somehow without riding it.

No. Just there is just CBT - its a safety course not a driving test.

Heard of this happening quite a lot; not sure it's 'legal' for them to do it, though.
However never heard of insurance requesting evidence.

That's an examiner, they are probably just over-cautious as they don't like you to take your test on your own bike. Schools bikes are generally accepted to be Kosher
