"Children starting secondary school in England this week will be the first to be legally required to stay in education until they are 17"

If I were cynical I might think that this was to keep unemployment figures lower.

Yesterday we had the attempt to prop up the housing market for a bit longer and today we have an attempt to reduce teen unemployment figures.

Anyone would think think that Brown is getting worried about his job. Laughing

Its going to take 7 years for this decision to have any impact on unemployment figures...

Not quite sure how this'll benifit GB\Lab in the short term, in terms of votes its probably marginal. Be a bit of a saving in income support in 7 years time though...

Thumbs Up

Or possibly in 7 years time, when, it seems, it will highly likely that the Torys will be holding the reigns, and this proves to be a shite plan, it will be blamed on the current government i.e the torys, thus giving labour something to promise to rectify at the next general election. People will forget that it was them who introduced it in the first place.
