Hope someone can help. Are there various types of restrictor kits available. ???

I am interested in a Yamaha Virago 535 and need a restrictor kit fitting, (only have restricted licence). I have had a few quotes and they have been anything from £70 to £300 fitted.

The £70 is just for the exhaust and the more expensive ones are for the carbs.

Does it make a difference. Can someone explain how they work and which is the best to go for. Can they damage the bike in the long term, (only plan to have it fitted for the minimum two years).

Any help appreciated.

They don't damage the bike, but when you de-restrict the bike you really want to get carbs balanced etc.

www.fiinternational.co.uk for restrictor kits.

They go under the carbs and are easy to remove, should only cost £180-£200 ish to fit.

They make the bikes rather dull and slow, which is obviously their intent, smaller bikes like the Nc30 restrict much better then bigger bikes like your virago. But you can only really find out by either speaking to someone who has a restricted virago or just getting one restricted and see how it goes.

If you don't touch the balancing screws, then i can't see why they need to be balanced after derestriction Confused .
Mine runs fine after i took them out.

I personally would definetly get them balanced to be honest, my R6 definetly did need it when I de-restricted it.

I only lasted 3 weeks. To be honest, a virago isn't really going to be too fast anyway,so get it restricted for the certificate, then remove them straight away and I bet it wont be too bad.

The virago is ok restricted. Your only chopping it down from 45 to 33bhp, so not a huge drop. It still rides fine with them in and still pulls 90 or 95. My friend has them in his, and he's happy with it.

They are easy to remove, you just take exhausts off and the restrictors sit in the top of them where the downpipe joins the cylinder head. They may be held in by a couple of tack welds, if the job was done well. Otherwise theres a chance they may rattle a bit. Just pull them out.
