 |
|
Ok, ive taken johns (virus) cg off his hands as some of you may know. In keeping with the spirit of the bike ( ) ive decided her next transformation will be from a rat/off roader to a bobber.
I was going to use a bigger bike as a donor but the cg came up at the right time, and i reckon doing a simple bike first time round will stand me in good stead to try a bigger bike next.
And after finding this pic i thought i might be able to do something cool with it -
https://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q399/beatnck2/Honda125.jpg
So, here she was when i got her home -
https://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q399/beatnck2/me008.jpg
And as she stands now -
https://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q399/beatnck2/DSCF1773.jpg
There a long way to go yet, but the plan is to hardtail it, sprung seat, have only the minimum to get it road legal and a simple but classy paint job.
Sorry for the quality of the pics, but my phone is useless .
Hopefully there will be some cutting, grinding and welding going on tomorrow, i'll update the thread as work continues

if your chopping the arse end off and doing some subframe tweaking then you can get it lower than that I think mate. see how high up the swingarm will go before the chain starts eating the bottom of it, then lift it back up about 3 cm and weld the bugger there.
I expect a go on this when its done btw, chops are fun.
Cheers

No need jamie, if he wants a go on a cafe racer then he can borrow his brothers cb250rs cafe racer, which was also previously mine.
anyway, nick it too old and boring for anything with the word racer in the name.
Cheers

Why hardtail it when you've got the shocks right there sitting there ready to copy the pic you posted above?
Just weld on a bit of tubing where the seat ends, and attach the shocks at that angle. A sprung seat will be necessary as well of course as the suspension will be rock hard. The peanut tank is nice too. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

Cheers guys
John, the pic showed the bike with just the shocks removed, so yeah, hopefully i'll be able to get the arse end lower.
I'd rather hardtail it (rather than copy the bike in the pic) as that way the wheelbase remains the same - the bike in the pic has had the swingarm lengthened. |

Good plan mate.
Dont rake it out or extend the swingarm, it wouldnt look right, nice little stubby chop however would look fuckin awesome.
Cheers

Im not raking the forks out, im not keen on the stretched out 'chopper' look.
And you're a cheeky cunt...too old and boring my ass...
Jamie, i did consider cafe racing it, but as nice as yours is i fancy something different.
I like your wheels though, are they standard cg wheels but just painted?
Just thought i'd add that in order to ride the 'lil bitch i think i might have to cut my legs off below the knee - either that or wear a clown suit |

C'mon man, you test rode a harley and liked it!
Recon a little chop would suit you though mate, good enough for back lane bimbling, and posing around town
Cheers

Looking sweet mate, what ground clearance you got there?
looks about the same as when we dropped the shocks out, but cant really tell because of the centrestand.
I feel a swancote run coming along once me you and jay have all got our projects done.
The big question though, will you be running forwards?
Recon the current controls would be a bit too far back with the seat at that rough height.
Cheers

I see what you mean about the paddock stand mate
Funnily enough we were discussing the merits of a turbocharged cg, unfortunatley both of the turbos are knackered and they are awaiting the next time the scrap man comes up the road blowing his bugle
Its running the lowest ground clearance possible without the chain fouling, im not really a fan of forward controls so im sticking with standard - plus you have to really keep standard controls on a bobber .
I cant be arsed to do anything today (hungover) but im hoping to get the bike completed and on the road within the next couple of months |
