I've been really unhappy at work for ages, I only really do administration, office monkey type of crap. Poor pay (£4.95 an hour) and I just really don't enjoy it at all.
I've been off work for the past 2 weeks nearly, due to go back on Friday. But I'm /seriously/ tempted to hand in my notice.
I don't have another job to go to and I don't exactly have much cash saved up to live off of. BUT If I go back I really can't see me then finding another job, I've been moaning and saying I'm going to leave for months now, about 8/9 to be precise.
I know they don't want me their either.
I really don't know if I should just hand in my notice or not, the way I'm figuring it, is if I just quit, I've no choice but to either find another job or find some other way of making enough cash to live on + more etc (i.e. ebaying stuff/web design etc)
Any one been in the same situation and can offer advice? ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I've always been like that. I get fed up in a job and just don't want to go in to work anymore. I'm starting to get it now and I've been looking for other jobs in my area. The thing is, in the past I have just walked out of my jobs, never worrying about the money aspect (but sometimes I have had cash spare to live off). I have always managed but then again my mother always helps me (mammy's boy I know ).
If you ain't happy then quit the damn job, you work to live not live to work and quitting will force you to get that web design business going. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

The thing that worries me though, I'm going to need at least £200 per week to "live". At work at present, I ONLY just get £200 considering I work 8-5 and sometimes 8/6 it's fairly shit! Even for an 18 year old.
I am /always/ late for work, doesn't particularly bother me, always get moaned at but heck I don't care, only 15 mins or so late each day, but I just struggle to get up and be bothered with it.
Most of the time I'm racing out of their at 5 to 5 as soon as I can and I spend all the time I can either doing nothing or browsing forums. But it's all tracked anyway and they know about it, but I really don't care.
Suprised I've not been sacked to be honest, which is kind of what I've been hoping for
I might save up, say £1000 then quit, at least then I got enough cash to live a few weeks whilst I sort myself out.
Really don't know
I *might* be able to continue works web site and intranet, I'd prob want to charge about £50 a week or something for maintenance and development, over a minimum of 1 year, with no set up fee , it's already set up and designed anyway. I might get away with that, I don't know. But at least that would be a BIT of regular income. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

, Hay don't do a job you hate, look for another one, if you run out of money theres always agency work. i've done some its usually pretty shitty work but if you say that you only want to work for the council, its really good, all i did was sit in a van and strim hedges 3-4hr breaks a day. Agency work is generally really shitty jobs which they can't get anyone to do fulltime.
Don't quit until you have a nother job. You have a loan for the R6 to pay, and you generally want to be able to "live" reasonably comfortably. Don't just quit. If you quit, it'd be all to easy just to stay in bed till midday, then not quite get round to applying for a job that day etc. www.reed.co.uk is good for finding jobs. Fire your CV off to loads of them in your area (I sent it mine to about 60 different jobs).

G beat me to it, but use the time that you have in the shitty job to search the many (many) job websites out there and send off loads of applications, the more you send out, the more likely you are to get something. (Law of averages says so, and it worked for me!)
Don't quit or get the sack as that way if you want to sign on then the government can get arsey as you left a 'perfectly good job' to sponge off the state etc etc.
Use all the things you can from the company you don't like to get yourself another, better and well paid job. Then write a lovely resignation letter and leave. But never burn bridges, you never know when you might need help/reference or to go back for something.
I had great joy (one of the proudest moments of my life actually, but then, I'm very sad! ) when I walked into my former boss's office to give him the letter which told him I was leaving to be a full time editor on a magazine. Fcuking stationery business, he was paying crap wages and had the audacity to tell me in my appraisal that there were all things in life we wanted to do but had to be realistic and do the jobs to pay the bills. - He wanted to be a professional golfer, he spent enough time playing it rather than attending to his bloody business, but he played with a friend of mine, who told me afterwards that he was crap anyway! - The fact that I was a journalist by tade and had been freelancing for about 10 years and still was at that point, seemed to go over his head. Tosser.
Believe me, knowing that you're going somewhere better, for more money and (especially) doing what you want to be doing. Is fantastic! ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

Yeah I guess it makes sense to stay at work until I find something better, The reason I was so keen not to go back after this 2 week holiday was because for the past like 9 months I've been moaning and saying I was going to quit, but never actually done it Thought if I went back it'd be the same story in 6 months time and I'm getting bored of it.
I can't browse job sites whilst at work I'll be sacked by the end of the day as I'm watched like a prisoner most of the time.
Reminds me, a few months back, a colleague put in for a days holiday and put as the reason "job interview" as a joke, hehehe.
I'll let you know what I decide to do, but your right, I cant lose my R6 and I've an ebay habit to feed so might try and find something better.
Thanks to Zaphobabbebble, I was up till 5am last night looking on job center web site, a few things on there but most need experience/qualifications etc! ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I am in the same boat as you mate! Comet is really on the downslide, however I can not afford to leave my job until I find a new one!
I get work from Fujitsu but it like only £15 a job, and it's not regular enough to give up!
I could proberly find a job, however I am not going to go back into retail!
I have applied for so many computer jobs and such like and haven't had much luck with it!!

To be honest I don't know what I want to do anyway, an apprenticeship probably wouldn't suit me because as far as I know they are for trades such as plumber/electrician/mechanic etc?
I'm going to go back to work tomorrow and stick it out for a few weeks whilst I either get my web design company up and running, or I find a better job.
I can live on far less than £200 a week I guess I'm just being cautious ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I second what Mark just said.
When I was 18 I was in a shit job on a shit wage and absolutely hated it, but stuck it out until something better came along (it usually does eventually)..
And the rest is history.. [brag mode on] This sunday I'm off to LA to have a meeting with Jerry Bruckheimer about his new blockbuster feature film that I am just about to start working on [brag mode off/]. So all I can say is, stick at it, yer still young and have ages to find exactly the right job - keep looking as good jobs are out there and do exist, you just need to sniff 'em out.
Don't voluntarily put yourself out of work, it's very easy to slip into the 'unemployed' way of living. Also bear in mind that most people think that their job is shite and would rather be doing something else (I hate my job at times and would sometimes love a 9-5 that I don't have to use my brain for!!)
A big salary will come but don't expect it overnight, it very rarely happens..!
Good luck finding something you enjoy! - You will find it if you look hard enough! ____________________ Love is 1050cc |
