Hi guys, Very Happy

I recently lost my nan to cancer, and am aware alot of people have lost loved ones to this deadly disease. Crying or Very sad

It is for this reason i've decided to organise a rideout in aid of Macmillan cancer research. Very Happy

Now i aim for this rideout to be a little bit different, the two dates in mind are 12th/19th of October and the theme is halloween. Cool

We are looking at dressing up (safety first though) and riding a route (tbc) and making as much publicity as we can, so expect your foolishness to appear in the newspaper. Exclamation

The rideout will be based in Essex, but we may touch some borders or cross them depending on the route that is arranged.

We are looking at Donations (minimum £1) to take part, and im thinking competitions for the public to vote on best costume etc etc if theres enough publicity.

Anyone up for it??? Mr. Green

Sounds a bit pointless in my opinion. You spend money on a halloween costume (even though the ride is a couple of weeks before halloween), and more money on petrol. So you spend all that money and give a quid to charity...

honestly the intention is great bud, but i don't see what you are doing is that great a thing to get loads of donations. when someone comes up to me and asks for money for doing a marathon, i think yeah that's a great thing because i know i am too lazy to do one, and most likely will do a 'jade goody' and not train, and consequently faint.

thanks for the replies

£1 is a bit cheap i agree, but it depends on numbers for example if we had 100 people then the price could be £5 so we raise £500 for charity, its all about having a laugh and raising money for a good cause.

I dont want everyone buying ££££'s worth of halloween costume, a scissored up sheet and go as a ghost is just as acceptable its what you make of it, its supposed to be a good laugh and for a good cause.

If you dont want to 'waste your petrol' then don't, but i 'wasted' my petrol going on the EAA rideout and so did alot others, so i dont see the difference at all..

Time/date/route/price are all to be confirmed, just want to know the interest first. Thumbs Up

Hi guys,

2E is my younger brother, so i share the loss of a nan with him.

This makes it a personal thing, which is why he has chosen to stick his neck out and try and do something about it. I've deliberatly not gotten involved purely because Im off to Iraq next week for three months.

Like any bike event, he is relying on word of mouth between the biking forums and clubs to try and generate some numbers. We dont expect it to be on a massive scale but you never know i suppose.

Please don't be negative about this event, we welcome input and help from everyone, but at the end of the day all we really need are bums on seats..(And your money Wink)

Erm, those two are often mutually exclusive.

Are you doing this as a ride with the intention of raising money for charity, a ride in memory of your gran or a bit of fun generally?

If your aim is to focus on the first one you are certainly going the wrong way about it.

If it's one of the latter two, perhaps you should make that clear; people have become savy to the main 'charity' events that in reality do relatively little for charity; where the main act is the people involved doing something they enjoy.

Oh and this is the wrong section if you're trying to invite people to your event rather than get people discussing about it.

Sorry about your Nan but you can do one if you think I'm giving a penny to Cancer research. They are robbing scum.

Give the money to a hospice instead. Thumbs Up

I appreciate your points G, however there is a difference between being just negative and giving critsism.

If people say "It wont work because...." thats fair enough, rather then shooting down ideas and not helping (not saying this is true in your case G)

I'd like to think that you can combine a day out riding and to raise some money for charity? Look at the London Unity ride...

As for the question of, Charity, Nan, or general fun, anyone on a rideout for a cancer charity would perhaps reflect on lost family members. But if people have fun as well, surely thats even better?

I believe my brother has posted here as the event is still in its early stages of planning..

All that said, I do appreciate peoples opinions, and so does my brother....
