Extra time granted for new motorcycle test

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced a delay of six months to the introduction of the new practical motorcycle test, originally scheduled for September 29, 2008.

The move comes after the Agency considered representations from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), the Motorcycle Rider Training Association (MRTA) and other motorcycle interests.

The new implementation date will now be Monday, March 30, 2009.

The decision to defer implementation will allow the DSA to carry on delivering motorcycle tests from a wider range of centres whilst working with motorcycle groups and to find a suitable solution for providing the new test service in problem locations.

Driving Standards Agency chief executive Rosemary Thew said: “Increasing road safety for motorcyclists has always been a top priority and it remains so. We listened carefully to the concerns put to us and this deferment acknowledges those concerns.

“None of us has lost sight of the fact that the aim of the new motorcycle test is to improve road safety for this important group of road users. This extra six months will give additional opportunity to find extra locations that we need to deliver the new test and potentially address gaps in service provision which have been highlighted to us.”

Can't say I'm too suprised, the new test centre down the road from me has only just been levelled off.

Awesome, I texted the news to my instructor mate - they had no clue.

They've been working like dogs all summer to fit everyone in and were ready for the dole office after Sept 29th!!! Laughing

Did you not start training for the new test too?

And also if you've booked for a test at an MPTC that's actually been built, does that mean you will just do the old test but from the new MPTC?

Yup, got 4 hours out tomorrow morning so I guess the content can all change now and just concentrate on the current version.

Even if your current test centre is ready to go (like mine) you still wont have to do it, you cant ask some to do what is arguably a more difficult test and others do the current one because they dont yet have access to a centre, that would be a protest in the making.

No. What he means is the test centre you were doing the new test at might not be the closest one to you, there may be one that is still doing the old test that was going to shut down. Will you still be doing the test at the test centre that is further away (that's if it is further away and not the same one)?

Make sure the instructor knows that the new test has been delayed, because, as Mudskipper said up above, their instructor mate didn't know.

I'm guessing it's nationwide, as everyone has to sit the same test.

Sorry, from what I know the current test centres about here are too far into the process of shutting down, so I wont be able to go to my local one, still need to go to the new centre.

But thats ok, lets face it there is a huge free parking facility there for another 6 months. Thumbs Up
