Sorry!
I spent the afternoon giving the VFR a well deserved and required oil/filter change. Then I decided to get the cleaning stuff out and give it a massive shine, diamond briting it afterwards.
Time came and I thought, weathers still good. Ill take it for a spin see if it runs better.
The gear changing and acceleration was a lot smooter, and temperatures were staying down. Excellent.
One country lane and one corner ruined that!
I approached it at decent speed, enough for the bike to get round. The road was the councils budget with loose gravel which flicked me sideways, chucked me into the ditch bouncing off a small tree and back into the middle of the road.. engine still running.
I just about managed to lift the bike up, before a young lad came jogging over and helped me move it and keep me company.
Slammed it on a trailer and took it back home.
I got off lucky and so did the bike.
My neck is sure sore, burnt the bottom of my back and got swelling by my eye from my helmet.
The bike needs new mirrors, screen, right lower fairing scratched a lot, rear panel grazed and front wheel has a rather large dent in it from the tree. Also snapped my footpeg, and the crash mushroom did bugger all apart from snap the mount on the engine right off!
The most important thing is Im OK, and the bike is recoverable.
Im nipping back tomorrow to see if I can retreat the other part of my engine mount so will get some proper images then, but you can vaguely see where the bikes gone through the ditch and back out...

I wasn't hanging about round there but it was not rediculously quick. I suppose I could put it down to lack of experience not accounting for the road surface, but whats done is done now. Project VFR fix up is commencing.. ____________________ Passed CBT: 21/05/2006 Passed A2 Test: 17/05/2008

Unlucky dude, and hope you and the bike are healed soon. I'm getting increasingly frustrated with that cheap blue gravel shite they keep putting down. Virtually all of my favourite roads have had that treatment this summer. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

Sorry to hear it mate, glad you're ok though.
Gravel on country roads is always something that keeps me on my toes on corners. At least you and the bike came off pretty well considering. It's always when you have it looking and running beautifully that this sorta stuff happes I swear!
Hope you get her tidied up soon, don't want to lose any more VFRs! ____________________ A quater of a NC30 and a whole tatty ZX6R J2, that's plenty...

*winces at sight of front wheel*
Ouch. That must have left some brown marks in the troosers - looks like a pretty fast corner.
Scratch one life off your nine.
Hope you get it fixed up as quick, and as cheap as possible. |

Friend of mine wrote off his 954 in a similar accident. Almost lost his hand too. Bike lowsided on loose gravel, and the bar pinned his hand to the road, wearing through the leather and armour of his gloves, and then took the skin off and grated the bone down. He has flat knuckles on one hand now, and still doesn't have full use of his fingers. He does manage very well though. Got a nice CBR1100xx now.
Hope you get the viffer fixed up! ____________________

first post here so you can say hi
anyway back to the subject ..
1. you came off on loose gravel
2. you say there's evidence of other motors leaving the road there
3. the local council "are responsible for the upkeep and mainetance of the roads", that doesn't mean they are allowed to leave piles of gravel on the surface...
that leads us to number ..
3. you got photo's of the road and damage and where you left .. go back and take more of where others have left the road... along with some pictures showing the loose gravel (A4 sheet of paper to show some on )...
get in touch with the council and make a claim off them, why ruin your insurance discount...
my younger brother crashed on gravel that local contractors spilt and ended up with approx 8k (he did break his leg though and it was 12 or so years ago)
hope ya feeling better ____________________ it ain't broke...
i ain't fixed it enough |

Glad you're okay fella. Defo sue the council, 'tis a shot to nothing. The no-win, no-fee bridage will tell you if you are able to make a claim.
