hi guys, havent posted in a while, unis been eating up my life. Sad
had my bike serviced about a month or so back, but i think they messed up the servicing. went riding down to farnham on thursday (first time the bikes done a trip out of london since august) and as i was coming up to guildford my bike started to sound wierd and made a strange screeching sound. pulled over at the BP station and and stopped tyhe engine. gave it a few mins and jumped back on. sounded fine kept rding and as i hit the a31 the noise came back. thought id just ride it out cos it was raining and nasty and dark on the a31. just as i enetered farnham couldnt change gears ne more, the pedal seemed stuck. immeadiatly think
"bollocks" park up in the uni car park and leave it there (weather was crap and it was too dark). when i finally got round to checking it today realised that there was no transmission oil. usually i check it all the time but simnce the bike was just serviced ii thought they should have changed it over (receipt for servicing always says including oils etc). so now ive left my bike there shagged and im back in london trying to figure out what i should do. the bike starts fine but when its idling away theres a horrible noise. so do ya think its shagged ? and do i have ne comeback at the garage where they servied it? any advice or info guys Very Happy

poor nsr sounded so nasty thursday nite Sad

Right, a couple of things.

Firstly, are you checking the level with the bike level, or on its sidestand?
Have you put any gearbox oil in it yet, or is it still sitting somewhere empty?

Garages frequently cock up servicing. They may have undertightened the drain plug, or left the level plug off if the NSR has one.

It certainly sounds like workshop monkeys cocking up again. Was it a decent dealer or a small garage?

Small garages can be decent too. Thumbs Up

I'd say that it might be rideable if you put oil in the gearbox. It might not be perfect though but at least it will go. The best thing is to try it and see what it feels like. Thumbs Up

When i had my NSR the mechanic pulled the bike up when stickin the oil in, then put it back on its side stand. Obviously there wasnt enough oil.

The lack of oil made it to my clutch and i heard similar noises and had similar problems as you. Couldnt change gear and it made a loud screatching noise. I did about 50 miles with it like that.

The mechanic took my clutch apart and there was no damage, well no significant damage.

In my case the mechanic owned up to him being at fault when i shown him the book that says fill it up on its side stand.

Hope for your bikes sake you have a sympathetic mechanic.

Have you phoned them yet, because there all nice until you want money off them, then they don't want 2 know although this is just my experience some may be better, but i gather a new gearbox could be quite expensive with labour etc.

Ask Ste, think hes having problems at the moment with a garage.

Good luck.

p.s find the receipt out
