I wouldnt bother,
you cant get a good finish with just good prep you need decent paint too.
I wouldnt even use halfords paint if i wanted a decent finish.

How fooked is the paint atm?

There isnt any lol, it would literally be just 'something' to get it on the road while looking at least half-decent.
currently the panels are down to the bare plastic perfectly smooth, and the tank is down to the bare metal perfectly smooth. So im just looking to slap some cheap paint on while funds build up. but at the same time, having it look respectable Laughing
If you would have seen the paint when i got it, you would realises how much an improvment even £1 spray paint will make, the whole bike was actually brush painted with some horrible form of red paint that was just appaling Sick anything that was metal, this paint resided there lol.

Thanks, andy.

Trade Paint is probably your best bet...

As long as you apply the paint in lots of thin coats then you'll get a decent finish, also try and spray onto a warm surface, this gives a far glossier finish than spraying onto cold objects.

I used Halfords paint for my track fairings and used the above method, it's not laquered and still shines well (no runs due to lots of thin coats...)

The road fairing was done with cans of trade satin black, again, using the above technique you can get a good finish.

Obviously it's not going to be as good as using a compressor and spray gun but it depends on what you expect out of the job Thumbs Up

Realistically, to get any sort of decent finish you're going to have to put the time and effort into the prep.
When matting the previous paintwork, go in one direction when using the wet and dry and don't to use a very fine grade (1200) for that last sand down.

Preparation really is the key Thumbs Up

Isnt it funny working in a paintshop, and all the amatuers to the trade have different methods?

For the amount you want to spend its going to be a pain in the arse.
as now your going to need primer too now, if you hadnt took the fairings down to bare plastic you could have keyed and sprayed over..

Ooer..
well ask him why hes using wet and dry between coats?
or between the last coat? by the sounds of it he is a bodging coont Razz

Tell him the proper way is to bake it off and then denib with 1500 on softbackup pad, then 3000 trizact it (wet pad) then compound using either farecla medium grade compound g3 if i remember or the 3m green compound and work finer and finer.

Dont need a booth to bake off. you can bake off in your house... or just go down to your local bodyshop and pay em a fiver to drop it in their oven while their baking something else off. Wink

The other way to bake it off is the airing cupboard i find. just with the method youve said your flatting down your fresh not even hard paint, and likely to take off shine, and also fook the paint as its still soft underneath if not baked. and im only telling you how it is, no need to go all sarcastic and womany over it Laughing

If he was and I have no reason to disbelieve where are his guns?

You can pick up a cheap compressor new for £70 and a cheap gun for £20. Endless hours of fun especially if you buy an air nail gun as well.

maccess is the motoring version of makro, they sell the useles tat that motorworld/halfrauds sell and all the shitty rattle cans you see at car boot sales. Any decent stuff they sell can usually be found cheaper elsewhere.

are you haveing a fucking laugh!
they are the cheapest by A LONG WAY! the tools are ok, and the stuff is for cheap consumables, its not as if im going to go to maccess to buy top of the range paint or a socket set, in the same way i wont go to halfords. its half the price of halfords, twice as good quality, tons of stuff in there.
