Doesn't look like a total scam to me.
Give them the proper price. Then let the cheque clear before you release the bike

Are you just kidding with me.
That's how the scam works.
The cheque does clear but its fake.
The bank then comes after you for the money.

its a forgery. only shows up once the person who's account it says its from realises, tells the bank, gets it sorted. The whole process takes ages.

Wouldn't that make the bank liable for not recognizing the forgery though? I mean, if it's already cleared and there was no wrong doing on the receivers part don't they get to keep the money?

See I was thinking something like that. I thought it would be like when your credit card gets ripped off, the credit card company takes the hit. Confused

When a cheque is cleared its is paid, but that can take a long time especially for foreign cheques.

The money will go into you account providing it passes the 'usual' checks but can be removed later, if the paying bank does not honour the payment.

You can, at a cost, ask for special clearance for UK cheques where it is fully checked and you are told when the money is yours.

For foreign cheques it depends how you have it paid in :-
'cheque negotiation' - ( the default method) ,is the cheaper and gets you the money in you account sooner, but it can be removed later. Exclamation '

'Cheque collection' cost more up to £50 for high value cheques but you don't get the money until the money has been paid to you bank and you are safe to spend it Very Happy .

Yeah that happened to me, luckily I didn't ship the item until the bank contacted me and told me that it was a fake. Smile
