The joy of a split link is you should be able to re-use it.
I normally put them on the other way round so the open end is not the end going forward when the chain is moving (if that makes sense).
Though to be honest I'm not sure if there is a right or a wrong way to put them on. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

............There is a right way to do it and thats not it. The open end needs to be at the back when on top (i.e travelling forwards) so that gravel etc. doesnt catch it and loosen/knock it off. You can re-use it so take it off and turn it round.
