Forgot to post this last week.

Weekend before last, was all set to go to Stormin' the Castle rally.

Friday, was that crazy storm day. Had trauma just getting the 4 miles home from work, so we decided to go on the Saturday morning instead.

Now we'd heard that the site had suffered with the weather, but hell, I've done quagmire rallies before, no biggy.

Halfway there, rain starting to sling down. Traffic on the A1 slows so I go to pull into the outside lane to start filtering.

Clutch seems to slip as I speed up, find a false neutral then 'CLUNK!'

Back wheel locks up, CB slides to a fishtaily halt between the 2 lanes, stalled.

Can't get it in neutral, won't move. Have to lift/drag the thing (with help from 3 car drivers) in torrential rain, loaded up with camping gear, to the side where the slip road is.

Kneel in a gutter mini river to inspect. Chain is slack, eventually ascertain that the chain tensioner bolt thread has been sheared smooth! Shocked Gearbox kerfucked, locked the front sprocket which transferred the force to the chain.

So call trusty Carole Nash for rescue, hour and a half to wait for a van in pouring rain, at the side of the A1.

So, what're ya gonna do?

Whip out the 3 second tent, and chill with the 'setting up' beers and some smoke while the traffic queues up, of course! Laughing

Oh, and the funny thing?

If the CB hadn't devoured it's gearbox, we'd have arrived there just in time to be turned away, the rivers running through people's tents had eventually forced cancellation... Laughing Good old CB, it saved us petrol!!!

I bet the passing car drivers were bemused, as it's not obvious that your bike's broken down.

Did that tent really take just a few seconds to put up? On your own? Which one is it? I'm thinking of buying a tent for my next expedition, but need something which is quick and easy to put up single handedly.

Are you simply carrying the tent as a rucksack thing? As our 2 second tent looks far to big for to be carried in the rucksack thing, looks like you'd take off while carrying it Laughing

I can't help wryly thinking you're just going up the road (comparatively speaking) and have photos up here before the roads are dry, and yet over in that red thread, Master "5000 miles Round Britain and Ireland on a 50cc for charidee" can't even organise the batteries for a camera...

My mum has that tent. It literally pops itself up when you take it out of the bag.

Five between two of us. Yeah, I did think that for a second, then thought, fuckit.

It was hilarious, being th A1 north just near Catterick, there was a large amount of squaddies, drunken Scots blokes in coaches and drunken Geordies in coaches. Lots of 'WAYYYYYY' s, beeps and thumbs up off alsorts of people. A few asking us if we were camping there (wtf?) a few offers of a lift, and two guys in a lorry asking for traffic information Laughing

Certainly passed the time.

Oh and we had an MP3 player with mini speakers playing in the tent too.

The tent literally pops up in seconds, it's one from Decathlon (google it), folds to a 80cm diameter disc. Fitted ok on the CB's huge rack with rest of gear strapped on top of it.

Sorry Luke, it wasn't the right weather for my bikini and my make up must have washed off... Rolling Eyes Laughing

Laughing Missed this one.

No, it's a slip road, so occasionally the odd vehicle turning off had to come a a bit close. But the A1 is only two lanes in that area.

Was handy the tent and bag were bright orange, hence using the bag as a warning marker on the back of the bike.

I was gonna say, you should have moved the bike over out of the lane...

or at least had several 'Traffic Officers' park surrounding you shielding the bike! Wink

Do you for what? The bike's unrideable, you didn't start drinking until after it died, the breakdown service is getting you home.

Wrong.

The police have to prove you are over or under the limit, then providing you have the keys on your person you could be done for being under the influence or alcohol or drugs whilst in charge of a vehicle. It is your job to prove you weren't go to ride the bike or to get it fixed and ride it home. The fact that you have a tent up on the side of the A1 on the hard shoulder and are drinking alcohol is enough they need to require you to provide a breath test.

Taking light of the situation i doubt many would try and prosecute you for it but they most certainly could try.

"Drunk in Charge" - the vehicle is still on a public road. Keep in mind that you can be done for drunk in charge of any from of transport if it is on a public right of way.

Also technically it is possible to be done for drink driving being in the general area of a vehicle you have keys for if the Police can say it is reasonable to believe you were going to drive.
