I've got a dodgy tyre valve, so need to replace it!
Can I do this myself or do i have to lug the wheel down to my local tyre man to get it swapped.

Dodgy in what way?

If it's just the actual valve mechanism, it's very easy.

Its a matter of what bit is dodgy.

If its the main body, the bit that seals to the wheel then the tyre needs to be deflated and the bead broken to get a new valve in there.

If its just the valve then you can get a tool to undo the internals and fit new. Some valve caps actually have the tool moulded into them. I buy valves from the local tyre fitter, 25p each.

tool looks like this

If anyone knows anywhere that sells the valve caps with the valve removers cheap, I'd be interested to know - always handy to have.

Tyre is going down, i've put a bit of water in the valve body and its bubbling up, so prob just the mechanism.

Yep, if it's inside then it's easy. Might just need the current one doing up a bit, or steel one from another wheel (but do tell me if you steal it from one of mine Smile ). If need be, can probably bodge a 'valve tool' easily enough.
