Rusty new Bonneville

I bought a new Triumph Bonneville T100 in May last year 03 and have ridden it all winter. At night it is parked outside under a cover. I have an unbelievable amount of rust to the chrome on both wheels. My last bike was a Yamaha and my new Bonneville looks like my old bike after 10 years. I am very disappointed with it. Is this normal with Triumphs?

What care have you taken while riding through the winter etc?

Uncared for chrome will corrode very quickly, though if its only surface stuff you should be able to polish it off and out with no problems.

I've no experience with triumph finishes personally, so can't comment if this is normal for your bike.

Its not normal for Triumphs, but The new Bonnie is a bit of a special case. Its not designed for winter riding and its designed for the odd sunny sunday blast, and to be stored in a garage. an ER5 is more aimed at what you have used it for...

If you do want to ride it all through winter and store it outside, then I suggest a thorough wash and polish after every ride.

And I know there is nowt wrong with Triumphs because I have a '99 Daytona that I ride all through winter and it has only a small amount of rust on the rear axle nut. And I very rarely clean it!

This will sound a bit harsh but TBH you need to think about what kind of use your bike will get before laying down the hard-earned.
