Removing scratches from plastics

There are some plastic parts on the bike, like the mirrors, that aren't painted they're just black all the way through. As my mirrors have a few scratches on, too deep to be taken out with T-cut, i was wondering if anyone has any tips on removing them?

I'm thinking it should be easy enough to smooth them out with a partly worn out sanding wheel with a drill, then sanding them down with progessively finer wet and dry and then polish, but i'm worried that i could end up losing all the shine completely.

Thought i'd ask before i try in case someone knows of a much better way of doing it.

Xerapol is good and is specifically designed for plastics. But it's hard work and is very similar to T-Cut in that it's meant for scratches not deep gouges.
