I'm after getting a disc lock for my bike but I've no idea which are good & which aren't so I need you good, kind, folks help on this one.

I'd rather get a Thatcham Approved lock as it might help in some small way to bring down the excessive insurance I'm gonna have to pay when I get my bike. (Hopefully soon)

And whilst we're at it can you also recommend a decent Thatcham Approved chain & lock as well. Very Happy

Recommendations please! Wink

I wouldn't bother getting an insurance approved lock, the discount they give is minimal.

Oxford locks seem to be good. When looking for a chain, look for the biggest thing you can find. Exclamation

I've got an Oxford lock and chain, been pretty good so far, although I'm not quite sure how to test a lock and chain without taking a bolt-cutters or angle-grinder to it hehe. One thing though, I dropped the lock on the floor from about hand height and when the key is in it just keeps turning, but as long as it's in the right place it will unlock. Seems safe enough though. Thumbs Up Smile

Oxford Monster chain or equivalent - big, heavy, gold approved so vaguely hard to cut through. They're not cheap, but look on ebay and you'll get them for at least half what they cost in the shops.

IMO disclocks aren't really worth the effort - they don't stop someone picking the bike up and chucking it in a van. At least a chain through the frame/wheel and attached to a solid object means they have to do some work first.

I've always used an Abus Granit which has been good but they are expensive, especially when you need to buy a decent length of chain.

I have been looking a these recently https://almax-security-chains.co.uk/shop/ they seem to get decent comments and aren't overly expensive.
