Vista 64 dare I say brilliant???

Hey folks just thought I would share something with you.

I decided to reinstall windows vista ultimate x64 edition as I rebuilt our Pc and found I had 8gb's or Ram I just bought a new geforce 260 and fancied playing Crysis again with DX10.

Well, I was involved in the beta testing of VISTA just out of interest and it was shit3 all 3 revisions I had were awefull. I bought a dell xps 1530 with vista and ripped it off and stuck on xp, as you can tell i have not been a lover of the OS until now....

Vista 64 went on like a star it boots in around 45-60 seconds (past post) is responsive for web browsing straight away, I no longer have to wait for antivirus etc to piss about just click and go.

What I was really suprised with was the driver support, what a differnce from a year ago! Everything went on fine well apart from my media remote but drivers should be out by year end.

As for gaming the DX10 is a nice improvement, albeit Crysis is still a bitch to run but when is it not??

Vista has some really rich features and now I have had some proper useful time with it xp really is starting to show the signs of age. Dont get me wrong XP is a great OS that has aged really well compared to 2000 but I would say if your thinking of upgrading to vista then make sure you have an x64 chip which all past early P4's are, grab some extra ram and go 64 bit I stillwouldnt look at x86 architechture.


We will have to eventually and its great to use now.

XP64 is better, 64bit OS based on 2003 server without the drag factor of all the crap that Vista is made up of. Its also cheaper as well.

Have always preferred Vista over XP. I've been using XP for past few months cause I can't be bothered to unpack my main PC and I can't stand it.

Normal XP is rubbish. XP64 is closer to 2003 server the XP Home/Pro.

I used to use XP home, didn't like it so went back to win 2k for a while, then went to 2003 server then to XP64, which is basically a 64bit version of 2003 server.

I don't like all the crap wizzards, hidden settings and decisions XP/Vitsta makes for you and the fact that all the eye candy makes the OS slower. Vista and XP can be stripped back to how I like it, however its then not really much different to what I'm using now so why upgrade?

I have not really had any problems using a 64bit OS. Slowly but surely software/hardware companies are improving support and 64 bit is the future. All new Intel and AMD chips are 64bit so why keep using a 32 bit OS? I can't think of any software that I have not got to install on xp64 other than real player, which is crap anyway. Not had any bother with drivers either, though I don't have any krusty old hardware or stuff made by crap obscure companies.

2003 is optimised for background by default, though this is easy to change, XP64 is a home optimised version of the OS.

By the time I have disabled all the stuff that I don't like about vista is no different to xp64.

Each to there own I suppose, Vista is not my cup of tea.
