I was riding in London and thanks to a stupid cunting football match the traffic was diverted. There was a large stationary traffic queue on the diverted route so I took the outside of all the other cars and tried to get to the front. I was going along at about 20-25mph and suddenly some woman out of nowhere decides to do a u-turn without indicating and clearly without checking her mirrors.

I slammed into the driver's side front wing, somersaulted over the bonnet and bounced off the tarmac upon which I got up immediately and sought refuge on the roadside...I was in shock, but thankfully the only injury I had was a damaged foot.

I never really got to check it (as the police and ambulance came) but I believe the bike was fooked...

What should I do now? (I am insured but tax had just run out)

Main thing is your OK.

Pray the police aint seen your tax disk...

Get onto ins co and get the claim started. Unless said stupid bint has said she will pay you out. But if bike is in a bad way i bet that won't happen. Plus police have attended so it really does need reporting to ins co.
Get onto the police and see if you can get any info on what happened that they can give you, if you did not get her details.

I guess bike is now in a pound, so find out who is paying the bill quick as it will mount up fast and get that sorted.

Shall I buy a new tax disk just in case?

Just say to the person at the post office, "Make it start from the date the last one ran out"

MOT certificate and insurance certificate, although I always take the reminder letter you should have received and the V5 document.

They don't need an MOT at the PO for a tax disc. Insurance certificate, registration document, previous tax disc or SORN notification is helpful.

Not true. I've just been to the post office to get a back-dated tax disc and they won't give me one. They said that I need a valid MOT certificate because my bike was due to be MOT'd on the 2nd September 2008. Anyone got any advice on what I do now?? I'm pretty certain my insurance won't be interested if I have no valid MOT or tax.

Yeah, sort it out for next time.

Its about all you can do. Buying a tax disc now would maybe just about slip through the net, but no MOT? Your screwed. Anyway to be honest with you they probably ran a check through there and then and found out you had neither.

I guess all you can do is ring the police and politely ask where your bike is and go from there...

Bummer.
Surprised you didn't get a producer at the time.
Police often spring that on you when you've had an accident.
As if you didn't have enough problems what with coming off the bike, etc.

If you hadn't had a run-out MOT as well, you could have taxed it online at the DVLA, backdated to 1 September.

You could try that, but by now (as they seem to have computerised the whole procedure and are able to check insurance and MOT when you apply for the tax, its all a bit Orwellian) they'll probably know that the MOT's run out as well.

Hope your foot's alright.

It obviously isn't good having no MOT (or tax), but it's far from the end of the world. It'll be a bit more difficult but you should still be able to claim off the drivers insurance - if your insurer won't do it, get a no-win no-fee solicitor on the case to do it for you.

The tax won't make any difference to your insurance. Don't worry about it.

Problem is if it had no mot or tax, their argument could be that it should not have been on the road in the first place.

dont suppose you know anyone that can get dodgy mots - now might be a good time to do so.

Ive just had an accident almost identical to yours and my insurer asked for v5, insurance cert and mot cert off me.

I really do think youd need one as no mot means that your bike isnt road worthy in the eyes of the law and this could mean problems with insurance too etc.

I'm not getting into it as it's been discussed to death before, but unless the bike had a fault that contributed toward the accident then it shouldn't stop his claim.

Remember, you are claiming off the car drivers insurance, not your own.

For the original poster, do some searching on threads made by "T.C", a legal guy who has explained this at length in the past.

Bit difficult to prove there was nothing wrong with it since it had no mot in the first place, plus i'm sure his bike could be totalled? or at least damaged somewhat, I'm no lawyer or anything so i'm just assuming what i'd think, that's probably why i always keep my MOT and TAX up to date.
