If you have a number plate that belongs to a 50cc, when the cameras on police cars scan it, will it show that it should need L plates?
My mate and I were debating it today and I want to know the answer now
Cheers,

Why should it, any more than a number plate on any other vehicle? You don't need L plates to ride a 50cc moped if you have a moped licence - and there are an aful lot of people that have one of those. ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

well if you are being followed by police, then yes it will.
They check not only what bike, who owns, who's insured on it, Tax and test.
Then if they think they are on to something, check the most likely rider, therefore if they find you only have provisional, no L plates = pull.

What benefit would you gain by not having L plates? It's a 50 - if you're seen two-up or on a motorway, you're going to get pulled. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

OK, you were debating it. Did your debate not cover the benefits of removing them versus keeping them on? ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I got stopped recently and because I haven't sent my pass certificates away for my full license, got given a 7 day producer. (Apart from the fact that the WPC was a patronising cow) I suppose if I failed to produce the relevant docs, I would eventually have been arrested for not having a licence to ride the bigger bike.
I think if you're 16 and on a 50, its a wee bit more clear cut. All they police need to do is ask your age.
For the original question, if scanned by ANPR would it be picked up? Not automatically as it still won't know who's riding the bike and having L's only applies to the person not the vehicle, if there was no insurance or tax it might be a problem though. (Not so sure about MOT though...)
