Just out of interest, why should bikes park for free when everyone else has to pay?

I'm astounded by the number of people who object to paying tolls for bikes, paying for parking etc. as though it's some right that bikes have.

Don't get me wrong, it's very nice that we get lots of concessions, but we shouldn't complain when we don't get one.

I tend to agree but I think the worry is first parking charges, then same parking charges as cars, then congestion charge, then higher tax...then a two wheel tax, separate noise pollution tax, traffic filtering tax, higher propensity to be involved in an accident tax Rolling Eyes

Why the hell not? Why *should* we be nice or reasonable?

Because being nice and reasonable gets you far more in the long-run than being loud and aggressive.

Ok. I officially don't get this. Westminster is messing us around with what is basically a revenue generation scheme. And that's revenue from parking fines, not from the parking charge. Various other London councils are messing us around about riding in Bus Lanes. There's a whole series of other threats to motorcycling where somebody somewhere wants to mess us around. They're not being nice or reasonable. They're pursuing their own agenda.

So on half a dozen forums various people are pushing that we actually do something for a change instead of just rolling over. And the next thing we know there's a bunch of motorcyclists using the Devil's Advocate approach and suggesting that we shouldn't complain, that the other side is right, and we really have nothing to complain about.

Well I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more. Mad And I'm sick of people, whether it's the BMF, MAG, or posters on the forums trying to tell me that "it's not so bad really and they have a point". OK?

I agree, socially speaking....but this is politics, being nice and reasonable will get you nowhere.

I might be on my little 125, depends if the pub will pay be on time or not.... This is a stupid idea to be honest, and as said above, it is just a money grabbing scheme.

I would be going but I am in Nice. Smile

The problem here for me is about why they are bringing this in and the lies that they have told to get them where they are.

They say they will introduce extra security and bike parks in London. In fact if you read the small print this is in residential areas not in the centre where most people who are paying the charge park.

They also say they need to charge due to the extra bike parks losing revenue from the car spaces that they were. If you look at there figures they are currently losing money because less cars/bikes have been issued with PCN's for the last couple of years. This has ended up with a deficit in funding which they now need to pay back. Bikes are an easy target.

There is a facebook group that updates with links to the minutes of the meetings with the council its called "Westminster Motorcycle Charging".

And why the hell shouldn't they, if that's their opinion?

For those interested another protest has been announced.

This time on a weekday lunchtime. Anyone working in London could probably come along with minimal interruption to working day.
